Job summary

GEICO in Bethesda, MD is seeking a Staff Data Scientist, Product Analytics to provide quantitative rigor and strategic insight to product, engineering, and design leaders. You will frame questions, design studies, and translate findings into recommendations shaping what we build.

You will lead A/B experiments, causal analyses, and ROI models to inform decisions driving growth and retention across products.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in product analytics, decision science, data science, or a closely related quantitative role at a technology company.
• Strong background designing well-powered A/B tests, diagnosing bias and variance issues, handling interference.
• Solid applied statistics foundation with practical experience selecting the right causal method.
• Advanced SQL and working proficiency in Python or R for analysis, modeling, and reproducible workflows.
• Demonstrated ability to define metric frameworks for a product area and present to executives.

Responsibilities

• Embed with product, engineering, and design leaders as a decision partner—framing ambiguous business questions and shaping bets.
• Define goal metrics, guardrails, and metric trees for your product area.
• Design, power, and analyze A/B and quasi-experiments; understand heterogeneity and long-term impact.
• Apply causal methods (differences-in-differences, instrumental variables, etc.) where randomization is not feasible.
• Build opportunity sizing, forecasting, and ROI models to guide pricing, growth, and investments.
• Lead root-cause investigations into user behavior, retention, and engagement; translate signals into recommendations.
