Job summary

BambooHR in Utah is seeking a Staff Data Scientist to lead ML and advanced analytics on the Data & BI team. You will own production ML and predictive analytics end-to-end, architecting solutions and setting standards for the team.

You'll partner with BI Engineers, Data Engineers, and stakeholders to translate business problems into predictive and prescriptive insights that shape go-to-market, operations, and product decisions across BambooHR. Strong Python/SQL skills and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in Data Science, ML engineering, or advanced analytical modeling in production.
• Experience designing and implementing complex ML systems at scale with lifecycle ownership.
• Strong Python and SQL skills and hands-on experience with modern ML frameworks and cloud data platforms (e.g., Databricks).
• Deep understanding of MLOps, experiment tracking, deployment, monitoring, and retraining.
• Proven ability to develop novel algorithms for ambiguous, complex problems and to make pragmatic trade-offs.
• Experience leading cross-functional initiatives across engineering, analytics, and business teams.
• Excellent communication skills for executive and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of part of the predictive/prescriptive models portfolio and drive next-gen use cases.
• Collaborate with BI/Data Engineers to embed ML into data platforms and GTM motions.

• Mentor data scientists, analysts, and engineers through reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Stay current on emerging techniques including GenAI-powered analytics and evaluate new tools.
• Forge strategic partnerships to keep the technical vision aligned with business priorities.

Please Note: This is a Utah-based hybrid position which will require some regular in-office days each week. Additionally, employment with BambooHR is contingent on passing both a background and credit check.

Essential Job Duties

As a Staff Data Scientist, you will be a senior technical leader for machine learning and advanced analytics on the Data & Business Intelligence team. You will own our production ML and predictive analytics portfolio end to end - architecting new solutions, hardening existing models, and setting the technical standards the rest of the team builds on. You'll partner closely with BI Engineers, Data Engineers, Analysts, and divisional operational stakeholders to translate business problems into predictive and prescriptive solutions that directly shape go-to-market, operational, and product decisions across BambooHR.

• Architect, build, and productionize ML models and advanced analytical systems that set the standard for data science and MLOps at BambooHR.
• Take ownership of part of our existing portfolio of predictive and prescriptive models, maintaining, monitoring, and improving them and identifying and delivering the next generation of high-impact use cases.
• Collaborate deeply with BI Engineers and Data Engineers to embed ML and advanced analytical capabilities into our data platform and go-to-market motions.
• Establish reusable methodologies, decision-making frameworks, and MLOps practices that become standard across Data Engineering, BI Engineering, and the Knowledge Layer system architecture.
• Mentor and raise the technical bar for data scientists, analysts, and engineers across the team through design reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing.
• Stay current on emerging techniques, including agentic and GenAI-powered analytics, and evaluate and recommend new tools and platforms that improve the team's capability and efficiency.
• Forge strategic partnerships across the organization to keep the technical vision aligned with evolving business priorities.

What You Need to Get the Job Done

• 10+ for Staff of experience in Data Science, ML engineering, or advanced analytical modeling, with a track record of shipping models that solved real business problems in production.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing complex ML and advanced analytical systems at scale, including ownership of models through their full lifecycle.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, and hands‑on experience with modern ML frameworks and Lakehouse or cloud data platforms (e.g., Databricks or similar).
• Deep understanding of MLOps best practices, experiment tracking, deployment, monitoring, and retraining, and experience optimizing ML systems for production.
• Proven ability to develop novel algorithms and approaches for ambiguous, complex problems, and to make pragmatic complexity trade‑offs.
• Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing without authority across engineering, analytics, and business teams.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to executive and non-technical audiences.
• Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
