Job summary

Plaid is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to set the technical direction for data governance at scale. You will design distributed backend systems that delete, restrict, and track data across many services, guiding multi-quarter initiatives from ambiguous privacy requirements to auditable infrastructure.

You will stay hands-on on high‑risk components, raise the technical bar through reviews and mentorship, and collaborate with Legal, Privacy, Security and product‑engineering teams to translate

Qualifications

• 8+ years building and operating backend distributed systems at scale.
• Experience leading cross‑team technical initiatives through to completion.
• Strong fundamentals in data stores, consistency and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture for Plaid's data-governance platform.
• Lead multi-quarter, cross-team initiatives.
• Drive design reviews and set engineering standards for reliability, correctness, and auditability.
• Partner with Legal, Privacy, Security, and product‑engineering teams to shape requirements.
• Mentor engineers and be a technical contact for governance concerns.
