Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Data Engineer, Market Data on the Institutional Markets team to architect and own real-time market data systems. You will build the ticker plant and distribution backbone for a unified trading platform with ownership akin to a startup, yet backed by Coinbase.

You will lead a lean team, craft low-latency components, and partner with engineers across product and teams to deliver scalable market data capabilities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering with production low-latency systems.
• Hands-on experience with market data systems (feed handlers, normalization, or distribution).
• Proficiency in low-latency Java (or C++) and high-throughput messaging (Aeron, SBE, or similar).
• Familiarity with venue/exchange connectivity and market data protocols (FIX, ITCH/OUCH, multicast).
• Track record delivering features end-to-end and operating what you build.
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

As a Staff Data Engineer, Market Data on the Institutional Markets team, you’ll architect, build, and own the systems that generate, capture, normalize, and distribute real-time market data across Coinbase at low latency - the ticker plant and distribution backbone of a unified trading platform - while leading a lean, high-impact team. Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus):

$207,485—$244,100 USD
