Job summary

HireRising in Scottsdale, AZ seeks a Staff Data Engineer to define and evolve long-term data architecture while remaining hands-on with coding. This is the most senior technical IC on the team, mentoring engineers, and leading cross-team initiatives to build scalable data platforms on AWS.

The role requires deep expertise in Python, SQL, Spark, and AWS data services, with a strong emphasis on data quality, governance, and AI/GenAI production applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
• 8+ years of data/ software/ platform engineering experience.
• Proven track record designing large-scale cloud-based data platforms (AWS).
• Strong programming in Python, SQL, Spark.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve long-term enterprise data architecture and standards.
• Hands-on with software development and data engineering using Python, SQL, Spark, and AWS.
• Design scalable, secure, and cost-efficient data systems in AWS.
• Lead cross-team data initiatives spanning multiple platforms and functions.
• Act as senior technical authority for data engineering and production challenges.
• Balance tradeoffs between AWS services and open technologies (Spark, Flink, Iceberg).
• Establish data quality, observability, security, governance, and operational excellence.
