Job summary

Workiva Inc. is seeking a software engineer to participate in product discovery, break down work into actionable tasks, and independently develop features and services. You’ll lead incident resolution, mentor teammates, and improve quality through code reviews and automated testing.

You will collaborate with stakeholders, establish metrics, and drive risk mitigation, while promoting an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture across our cloud-based platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; advanced degree may substitute
• 6 years of related experience
• Experience building and implementing tests for high‑quality software
• Strong CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, OOP, FP, cloud‑based distributed systems

Job description

What You’ll Do

Participate in product discovery to understand stakeholders, customer usage, and product scope. Break down projects into manageable tasks for efficient development. Independently develop and enhance features, solutions, and services based on partial definitions. Lead the team in resolving complex incidents, analyzing root causes, and driving improvements. Guide and support team members with technical challenges, contributing to their growth and development. Improve solution quality through code reviews, automated testing, and collaboration with stakeholders. Represent the team, providing integration assistance, education, and risk mitigation for stakeholders. Establish key metrics to identify software issues, propose solutions, and drive resolution. Foster an inclusive environment, encouraging diverse perspectives and open technical discussions.

What You’ll Need

Minimum Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field; an advanced degree may be considered in lieu of professional experience.
• 6 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Specialized expertise in sub-function and working knowledge of related functions.
• Understanding of industry and how work contributes to the achievement of objectives.
• Strong proficiency in computer science fundamentals, including knowledge of data structures, algorithms, object‑oriented software design, functional programming, and cloud‑based distributed systems.
• Experience in building and implementing various types of tests to ensure high‑quality software.
• Demonstrated success in leading initiatives, showing your ability to take ownership and drive projects forward.
• Expertise in modern programming languages such as JavaScript, Java, Go, Python, etc., enabling you to contribute effectively to our tech stack.
• Skilled in debugging complex systems or applications, with a keen eye for identifying and resolving issues.
• Knowledge of mobile computing, databases, database design, cloud infrastructure, HTTP, and web protocols is a plus, as it will further enhance your contributions to our team.
• Availability for after‑hours support to address critical customer issues and ensure a reliable and smooth customer experience.

Travel Requirements and Working Conditions

• Willingness to travel up to 10% for team and corporate meetings, fostering relationships and representing company interests.
• Reliable internet access for any period of time working remotely, as we embrace flexible work arrangements.

How You’ll Be Rewarded

• Salary range in the US: $129,000.00 - $207,000.00
• A discretionary bonus typically paid annually.
• Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire.
