Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Staff Cyber Systems Engineer in Annapolis Junction, MD to implement cyber survivability attributes, refine cybersecurity requirements, and guide security layout within weapon system programs.

The role requires active DoD clearance, NIST 800-160 experience, RMF artifacts, DoD 8570 IASAE II, and TS/SCI eligibility; travel up to 10%; relocation assistance not provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of experience in a related technical field or equivalent experience.
• Direct experience using NIST 800-160 System Security Engineering and SDLC.
• Experience developing RMF assessment and authorization documentation.
• DoD 8570 IASAE II certification and ability to obtain IASAE III within 6 months.
• Active Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret with SAP access.

• Derive and refine cybersecurity requirements to drive protections.

Staff Cyber Systems Engineer – Annapolis Junction, MD

Key Responsibilities

• Implement weapon system requirements to ensure cyber survivability attributes in system designs.
• Decompose, derive, and refine the system’s cybersecurity requirements to drive built‑in protections.
• Guide and support the security layout/architecture and influence the selection of security tools.
• Evaluate and assess proposed and realized implementations to identify security risks and verify that cybersecurity protections are incorporated.
• Support the development of verification efforts to confirm functionality, effectiveness, and completeness of cybersecurity protections.
• Provide security governance, risk management, and support for risk management processes.
• Collaborate with program systems engineers across integrated product teams to meet mission cyber objectives.
• Ensure weapon system compliance with contractual cybersecurity standards such as CNSSI 1253, DoD 8570, DoD 8510, and AFI 17‑101.
• Propose and design cyber systems architecture changes with traceability to requirements.
• Conduct cyber‑attack surface analysis of system designs and propose mitigation strategies.
• Participate in cybersecurity assessment activities, review assessment methods, plans, and reports, and contribute to penetration test planning and execution.
• Identify problems, research technical solutions, and resolve issues in an Agile, DevSecOps environment.
• Support program engineering review boards.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity Engineering, or related technical fields with 12 years of experience, or Master’s degree with 10 years of experience, or PhD with 8 years of experience, or 18 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
• Direct experience utilizing NIST 800‑160 system security engineering and the system development life cycle.
• Direct experience developing RMF assessment and authorization documentation.
• Current DoD 8570 certification for IASAE LevelII (CISSP) and ability to obtain IASAE LevelIII within 6 months of hire.
• Active Secret clearance with ability to obtain a Top Secret with SAP access.

Preferred Qualifications

• System security architecture experience.
• Experience working with DOORS and CAMEO security‑related tool suite in a DevSecOps pipeline (SonarQube, Fortify, etc.).
• Familiarity with Systems Security Engineering (SSE) documentation such as Cybersecurity Strategies, Information Support Plans, Program Protection Plans (PPPs), Anti‑Tamper Plans, Counterintelligence Support Plans, Integrated Threat Assessment Reports, Operations Security Plans, Continuous Monitoring Plans, Defensive Cyberspace Operations Plans, Enterprise Architecture Views, and NIST SP800‑160.
• DoD 8570 certification for IASAEIII (ISSEP, ISSAP).
• Experience with Agile methodologies.
• Active TS/SCI clearance.

Additional Compensation

Primary Level Salary Range: $194,700.00 - $292,100.00. Base pay may be supplemented with overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and, for specific roles, long‑term incentives.
