Skylo Technologies in Mountain View, CA, is hiring a Staff Cloud Engineer (AWS) to lead design and optimization of our AWS-based cloud infrastructure. As a senior technical expert, you will shape cloud architecture, drive automation, and ensure scalability, reliability, and security across environments.

This role requires 8+ years in cloud engineering with deep AWS experience, strong IaC skills, Kubernetes, and strong leadership.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of cloud engineering experience, at least 5 years on AWS.
• AWS core services knowledge (EC2, EKS/ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, VPC, Route53).
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation).
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerization.
• Strong understanding of cloud networking, security and IAM.
• Proficient in scripting/automation (Python, Go, Bash).
• Observability tooling (CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus, ELK).
• Excellent communication, mentorship, and cross-functional leadership.
• AWS Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect—Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer—Professional.

Responsibilities

Devices connected over satellite are managed and served by Skylo’s commercial NTNvRAN, featuring a 3GPP standards‑based cloud‑native base station and core, enabling connected services for three main verticals: mass‑market consumer devices, automotive, and industrial IoT.

This role is located Mountain View, CA where we are onsite 3 days a week in office.

Role Overview

Skylo is hiring a Staff Cloud Engineer (AWS) to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of our AWS‑based cloud infrastructure. As a senior technical expert, you will shape our cloud architecture, drive automation, and ensure scalability, reliability, and security across our environments.

Responsibilities

Architecture & Design

• Lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and cost‑efficient AWS architectures.
• Define best practices for compute (EC2, ECS, EKS), storage (S3, EBS, EFS), and networking (VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect).
• Architect solutions for high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
• Partner with application teams to design cloud‑native solutions optimized for AWS.

Infrastructure Engineering & Automation

• Drive Infrastructure as Code initiatives (Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation).
• Automate provisioning, scaling, and configuration management.
• Improve observability and operational efficiency through logging, monitoring, and alerting.
• Lead performance tuning and capacity planning for critical workloads.

Security & Compliance

• Embed AWS security best practices (IAM, KMS, GuardDuty, Security Hub).
• Partner with the security team to ensure compliance (SOC2, ISO27001, HIPAA, GDPR).
• Implement zero‑trust principles and least‑privilege access controls.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Act as a technical leader and mentor for cloud and DevOps engineers.
• Influence long‑term cloud strategy, tooling, and architecture decisions.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with product, security, and engineering teams.
• Participate in design reviews, architecture boards, and technical roadmaps.

Qualifications

• 8years of experience in cloud engineering, with at least 5 focused on AWS.
• Proven expertise with AWS core services (EC2, EKS/ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, VPC, Route53).
• Strong proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation).
• Experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and service mesh architectures.
• Deep understanding of cloud networking, security, and identity management.
• Proficiency in scripting/automation (Python, Go, Bash).
• Strong knowledge of observability tooling (CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus, ELK, etc.).
• Excellent communication, mentorship, and cross‑functional leadership skills.
• AWS Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect— Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer— Professional.

Nice to Haves

• Experience with multi‑account strategy and AWS Organizations.
• Background in FinOps / cloud cost optimization.
• Prior experience in regulated industries (fintech, telecom, healthcare).

Additional Information

The compensation range for this position is $175,000-$185,000. This range reflects the low and high end of the range Skylo reasonably and generally expects to pay the hired candidate in this role.
