Burns & McDonnell in Akron, OH is seeking a Staff Civil Specialist to join our civil design teams. You will contribute to projects across power, process, industrial, healthcare and government sectors, adapting civil plans to budget and client needs.

Responsibilities include civil design from concept to design completion under licensed engineer, reviewing drawings, preparing data for client presentations, performing field inspections, and updating CAD drawings using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and BIM

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in engineering technology or related field.
  • 4 years civil engineering experience, consulting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM software and related tools.

  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of facilities.
  • Design civil components per project needs and manager specifications.
  • Apply knowledge of civil engineering concepts, codes and procedures.
  • Research and compile project data as required by project managers.
  • Update drawings to verify corrections across CAD software.
  • Support client presentations, shop drawings, and contract administration.
  • Conduct field inspections and measurements as needed.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.

Description

The Staff Civil Specialist will work on civil design teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects including power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government and military facilities. The Staff Civil Specialist will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting civil plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.



  • Perform civil design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion under the direction of a licensed professional engineer.


  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to: power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.


  • Design civil components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.


  • Applies strong knowledge of commonly used civil engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the civil engineering services industry.


  • Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.


  • Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.


  • Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, industrial, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.


  • Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.


  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Complies with all policies and standards.



Qualifications


  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering Technology or a related degree from an accredited program required.


  • 4 years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred required.


  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.


  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).


  • Strong computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, civil analysis programs.


  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
