Your role at GEI

GEI’s Mid-Atlantic area offices (Washington DC, Rockville MD and Charlottesville VA) are seeking an entry-level Civil/Geotechnical Engineer. Under supervision, support field and engineering design efforts including geotechnical and environmental soil borings, well and instrumentation installation, sample collection, and construction oversight. Support design tasks such as foundations, ground improvement, instrumentation, and environmental work. Projects include private, public, maritime, with foundations, earth retention, and geotechnical instrumentation.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

Skills include construction observation/management, geotechnical and structural design, instrumentation, and technical specifications. Responsibilities:

  1. Support site investigations and assessments, including soil borings, testing, environmental sampling, and subcontractor oversight.
  2. Coordinate and interpret lab tests.
  3. Prepare engineering analyses and calculations.
  4. Draft technical memos, reports, and construction specs.
  5. Observe and document field and construction activities.
  6. Design and modify drawings using AutoCAD.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BSc in Civil Engineering or related, with a geotechnical focus.
  • 0-3 years experience in civil/geotechnical/environmental engineering and consulting.
  • Experience with geotechnical design software, Civil 3D, GIS.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel and perform field tasks in various conditions.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MS in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Construction observation/management experience.
  • Programming experience.
  • 40-hr OSHA/HAZWOPER training.
