Job summary

Roux in Houston, TX seeks an entry-level civil/environmental engineer to support design and investigation projects. You will assist in creating plans, calculations, and reports, using AutoCAD and Civil 3D to back design efforts and ensure QA during construction.

The role includes field sampling, equipment calibration, and coordinating data for technical deliverables. The position targets candidates with a civil/environmental background, 0–2 years of experience, and an EIT preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering.
  • 0-2 years of experience typically required.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; Civil 3D experience a plus.

  • Assist project team in engineering design documents including plans, calculations, specifications and reports.
  • Use AutoCAD/AutoCAD 3D to support design projects and provide QA during construction.
  • Prepare technical reports coordinating figures, data tables, site descriptions, and other details.
  • Assist field activities: sampling, monitoring equipment calibration, soil sampling, well installation, groundwater sampling, and oversight of subcontractors.

Description
Position Overview

This position will assist the project team on civil/environmental engineering design, investigation/remediation, and other projects.

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree incivil or environmental engineering.
  • Typically requires 0-2 years of experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD. Civil 3D experience a plus.
  • Drainage design experience is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Preliminary data evaluation and analytical skills.
  • Ability to assist in the preparation of the major components of routine deliverables (i.e., tables, figures, appendices, etc.).
  • Exhibits strong work ethic, positive attitude, and general enthusiasm for the work.
  • Ability to safely perform various routine field activities including but not limited to applying proper sampling techniques for all environmental media and overseeing and directing subcontractors.
Essential Duties
  • Engineering design activities:
    • Assist project team in the development of engineering documents including plans, calculations, specifications and reports.
    • Use of AutoCAD/AutoCAD 3D to support design projects.
    • Provide quality assurance during construction.
    • Prepare technical reports by coordinating figures, data tables, site descriptions, and other necessary details to ensure report completeness.
  • Field activities:
    • Assists other technical staff in calibration of sampling/monitoring equipment, soil sampling, well installation, development and purging, groundwater sampling, vapor/indoor air sampling, remediation monitoring, and oversight.
Physical Demands/Work Environment Conditions

This position requires work in the field as well as in the office. Fieldwork includes working independently or as part of a larger team at exterior project sites (i.e., industrial/brownfield facilities, monitoring wells, treatment systems, construction projects) to perform sample collection, recording of operational/meter parameters, and oversight of subcontractors (e.g., drillers, heavy equipment operators, truckers). These field activities require the ability to drive to different project sites and physically move around outdoors in various terrains, in adverse weather conditions and occasionally for extended or irregular hours. Conducting work involves the use of hand-held monitoring instruments and tools, as well as water sampling equipment, which requires the ability to routinely lift and carry objects, stand, walk, reach, bend, squat, kneel and twist. Office work is primarily stationary/sedentary using a computer and keyboard/mouse requiring repetitive hand movements.
