Staff Civil Engineer - Environmental Services
About the job Staff Civil Engineer - Environmental Services

We are seeking a Staff Civil Engineer with experience in environmental engineering to join our growing Environmental Services team in Greenville, SC. The ideal candidate will be self-driven and experienced in leading or supporting a wide range of civil and environmental design projects, including new developments, modifications, and redevelopments. Project types may include high-voltage transmission routing and siting, natural gas, renewable energy, commercial development, power generation, water treatment facilities, and emergency response work. This role will also contribute to shaping and implementing departmental strategies and culture.

This position offers the opportunity to engage in diverse technical areas such as site civil design, hydraulic analyses, stormwater management, regulatory compliance, preparation of construction documents, and construction administration. The role requires technical leadership, collaboration, and mentorship within multidisciplinary teams, ensuring that designs align with project budgets, design factors, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead or support engineering teams in producing high-quality, well-coordinated civil and environmental project designs.

Manage and coordinate all aspects of multidisciplinary projects of varying complexity.

Prepare design documentation, including criteria, technical memorandums, reports, drawings, design packages, and cost estimates.

Provide strategic and planning support to clients.

Review and guide the work of junior engineering staff.

Manage project execution, including scope, budget, schedule, quality, safety, and client expectations.

Develop and maintain client relationships and participate in marketing, contractual, and design meetings.

Uphold QA/QC standards across project deliverables.

Support and conduct internal staff training.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Environmental or Civil Engineering (or related field) from an ABET-accredited program.

Alternatively, a Bachelor of Science in Environmental, Civil, or related Engineering Technology with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

A Masters degree in Environmental Engineering may substitute for one year of experience.

Minimum 3 years (4 years preferred) of environmental engineering experience, ideally in consulting.

FE/EIT certification preferred.

Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Experience with construction oversight and knowledge of construction methods and procedures.

Willingness to travel (approximately 10%).

Strong understanding of standard civil engineering principles and practices.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to interact effectively with clients, regulators, and team members.

High attention to detail, with strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant engineering software.
