Overview
Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems seeks a Senior Software Architect with 20+ years of experience designing, engineering, and field deploying multi-level systems spanning cloud, edge, and government furnished hardware/software (GFX/GFE). The role will own end-to-end architecture for cross domain and multi-level security (Red/Black) solutions, guide cloud migration to Microsoft Azure, and lead technical teams through concept, development, integration, and operational sustainment.
Key Responsibilities
- Elicit, write, and prioritize functional requirements.
- Translate functional requirements into hardware and software architectures; define all interfaces.
- Guide development of Activity, Internal Block Diagram (IBD), and Block Definition Diagram (BDD) models using Cameo Systems Modeler.
- Convert limited cyber requirements into detailed design artifacts (JSIG/NIST).
- Architect Zero Trust networks, role-based access controls, and IAM workflow diagrams.
- Design on-prem, hybrid, edge, and CSP integrated solutions for Content Security Policy / Ground segment / Data center architecture.
- Define processing levels, CD S interfaces, and data-filtering mechanisms for multi-level & cross-domain solutions.
- Apply network architecture expertise: micro segmentation, resiliency, NOC/SOC planning.
- Implement Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, Python, and other IaC for repeatable provisioning.
- Build, test, and deploy software and infrastructure across the lifecycle; own CI/CD pipeline.
- Create integration test plans, validate data flows, and verify real-time command paths.
- Leverage open-system architectures (GRA/GFx) for mission-critical software.
- Deploy Docker, Kubernetes, VMware, Hyper‑V, KVM, etc., in hardened environments.
- Incorporate DoD grade, GFx hardened, secure boot components for secure/hardened/COTS integration.
- Serve as lead engineer, IPT lead, technical manager, and mentor for junior staff.
- Provide domain expertise in defense, aerospace, missile, and mission-critical C2 systems.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and at least 12 years of relevant experience, or STEM master’s degree with 10 years, or STEM PhD with 8 years.
- 8+ years of architecting secure, distributed solutions.
- Core technical expertise in cross-domain solutions, multi-level security (Red/Black), Microsoft Azure, cloud & distributed hardware architecture, and government furnished hardware/software (GFX/GFE).
- Ability to acquire and maintain Top Secret clearance & SCI (DoD must be in scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) within a reasonable period.
- Proficiency in NIST, JSIG, NSA, DoD cyber‑risk frameworks.
- Proven leadership of multi-disciplinary technical teams and large-scale IPTs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS (GovCloud), Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Design & administration of relational & NoSQL databases.
- Hypervisor deployments (VMware, Hyper‑V, KVM) and VDI.
- Familiarity with NIST 800‑53, NIST CSF, NSA security guidelines.
- Experience with Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, Python, CI/CD tooling (GitLab, Jenkins, Azure DevOps).
- Deep experience building Zero Trust networks and IAM/RBAC models.
- Edge computing nodes, field segment integration, data‑center design (on‑prem, hybrid, multi‑cloud).
- DoD grade COTS, GFx hardened, secure boot integration.
- Philosophical understanding of Agile Combat Employment (ACE).
- MS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Certified Cloud Architect (Azure, AWS, GCP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent DoDI 8510.01 (Risk Management Framework).
Salary & Benefits
Primary Level: $177,000.00 - $265,600.00. Salary considers scope, responsibilities, experience, education, and market conditions. Overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and long-term incentives may apply for certain levels. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, and paid time off.
