Job summary

Ford Motor Company is seeking a senior battery modeling leader to own and advance cell-level and system-level models for EV/HEV platforms in the United States. This role collaborates with software, engineering, design, and UX teams to shape next-generation battery technologies and vehicle integration.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of cell-modeling experience, strong Python/MATLAB/Simulink skills, and a track record in cross-functional delivery.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in developing cell models and understanding how cell characteristics relate to system performance.
  • Knowledge of modeling techniques for lithium-ion cells, battery packs, and thermal systems.
  • Fundamental engineering/chemistry/physics knowledge.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or Simulink.
  • Experience with JIRA/Confluence or similar tracking tools.
  • Masters in chemical, EE or related fields.
  • Experience with different cell chemistries and form factors.

Responsibilities

  • Create and own battery physics models of different fidelities.
  • Develop advanced lifetime models for current and next generation cells.
  • Drive product direction and cell design based on model recommendations.
  • Integrate versions of the cell model with the vehicle model.
  • Define requirements for thermal and pack components based on cell aging and warranty.
  • Work with experimental teams to obtain data for improved analysis.
  • Support future roadmap scenarios.
  • Create DVP for cell testing.
  • Correlate and improve models with field vehicles.

What you’ll be able to do:
  • Create and own battery physics models of different fidelities

The minimum requirements we seek:
  • 5+ years of experience of developing cell models and an understanding of how cell characteristics relate to system performance
  • Knowledge of modeling techniques used to simulate lithium-ion cells, battery packs, and thermal systems
  • First principal knowledge of engineering, chemistry, & physics fundamentals
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • High proficiency in any of Python/MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with JIRA/Confluence or a similar system for tracking inputs/results
  • Masters in chemical, EE or related fields of engineering
  • Experience with different cell chemistries and form factors
Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience with Battery or Hybrid Electric Vehicles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team
  • A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement
  • PhD in battery modeling

This position is a leadership level 6 and ranges from $146,520-276,600.
