AFFIRM is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead Observability. You will own telemetry pipeline architecture for 200+ TB/day, drive log sampling strategies, and guide AI-assisted instrumentation.

You will mentor a team of engineers and partner with product, design and analytics to ensure robust, scalable observability across the platform. You will shape technical strategy, foster a culture of quality, and help teams implement reliable, cost-aware instrumentation.

Qualifikationen

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Flink, Kubernetes.
• Experience with telemetry systems (metrics/logs/traces) using OpenTelemetry, Kafka, Terraform.
• Strong view on observability practices such as wide events, sampling, cardinality, and SLOs.

Aufgaben

• Own the architecture of AFFIRM's telemetry pipeline, balancing reliability, query performance, and cost at 200+ TB/day.
• Design log sampling strategies to reduce volume and cost while preserving signal during incidents.
• Shape how observability fits into agentic development and AI-assisted coding practices.
• Set technical strategy for the team on a yearly horizon and align with business goals.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics to ensure sustainability and trade-offs are understood.
