Job summary

Verkada is hiring for a senior device security engineer to architect and scale security infrastructure across our devices and backend stack. You will design testing tooling, secure the firmware supply chain, and build automation to manage the device security program.

The role requires 8+ years in Go/Python, AWS on-call experience, strong systems architecture knowledge, and a hacker mindset. On-site use in California is expected with deep collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science/Engineering or related field.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• 8+ years developing Go/Python microservices with AWS and participating in on-call.
• Strong knowledge of scalable, fault-tolerant backend design including databases, queues and blob storage.
• Knowledge of Temporal, Kubernetes, Docker, Redis, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, IAM and S3.
• Strong understanding and experience in systems architecture.
• Experience with managing IoT device fleets (preferred).
• Security experience or hacker mindset (preferred).

About the Role

Verkada’s device security team has an important mission–empower the company to build the safest physical security products in the world. We are directly responsible for the development of important defensive security measures that run on all Verkada devices. We help maintain and expand security testing infrastructure that constantly evaluates devices for security vulnerabilities. And we help the company build stronger and more resilient products through our offensive security evaluation efforts. What You'll Do

• Build out and maintain security infrastructure, such as internal tooling to automate device security testing.
• Design, build, maintain, and scale device security backend systems & tools, such as those that help us secure the firmware supply chain.
• Develop, improve, and build automation to administer the device security program.
• Help mentor other engineers, and learn everything you can about security.

What You Bring

• BS/MS in Computer Science/Engineering.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• 8+ years developing go/Python microservices with AWS and participating in on-call.
• Strong knowledge of scalable fault-tolerant backend systems design, including databases, queues, blob storage.
• Working knowledge of at least some of these: temporal, k8s, docker, redis, dynamoDB, postgres, IAM, S3.
• Strong understanding and experience in systems architecture.
• Experience with managing IoT device fleets. (preferred)
• Security experience, hacker mindset, or interest in learning more (preferred)

Annual Pay Range

At Verkada, we want to attract and retain the best employees, and compensate them in a way that appropriately and fairly values their individual contribution to the company. With that in mind, we carefully consider a number of factors to determine the appropriate starting pay for an employee, including their primary work location and an assessment of a candidate's skills and experience, as well as market demands and internal parity. A Verkada employee may be eligible for additional forms of compensation, depending on their role, including sales incentives, discretionary bonuses, and/or equity in the company in the form of restricted stock units (RSUs)

Below is the annual on-target earnings (OTE) range for full-time employees for this position, comprised of base compensation and commissions (if applicable).

Estimated Annual Pay Range: $200,000 – $300,000 USD
