Job summary

The Washington State Department of Health is seeking a Staff Attorney to deliver quality legal services to Health Systems Quality Assurance (HSQA) programs. The role supports the department’s mission to protect and improve public health by applying legal expertise to disciplinary matters involving healthcare providers.

Responsibilities include case management, litigation support, drafting discipline documents, and settlement negotiations.

Qualifications

• Admitted to practice law in Washington state (in good standing).
• Experience with administrative, health, or government law is preferred.
• Strong research, writing, and analytical abilities.
• Effective communication and collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities

• Present legal issues to disciplining authorities in contested hearings and resolutions.
• Conduct legal research and advise on evidence, statutes, and regulations.
• Draft discipline-related documents and review materials for public disclosure.
• Participate in pre-hearing settlements and draft orders per sanction schedules.
• Maintain professional communication and recordkeeping; support process improvements.
• Coordinate with investigators and program staff on compliance matters.
