The ideal candidate has a passion for Kansas and enjoys the satisfaction of helping people build vibrant communities.

The League of Kansas Municipalities is a membership association with a clear purpose of strengthening Kansas communities. Since 1910, we have been a resource for cities across Kansas, providing information on best practices in city operations and facilitating communication between members to grow their networks and share ideas. Our team works collaboratively to assist members in solving issues and strengthening their cities. We pride ourselves on providing timely and accurate information that supports our members’ needs.

The Staff Attorney will:
  • Provide guidance to member cities on a wide range of legal issues, including but not limited to employment, contracts, constitutional matters, zoning and land use, and ordinances.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support the League and member municipalities in resolving legal questions and concerns.
  • Assist in the drafting and review of ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other legal documents.
  • Collaborate with the League's legislative team to analyze proposed legislation and provide guidance on potential impacts on municipalities.
  • Develop and deliver legal training programs and educational materials for member municipalities.
  • Stay updated on relevant legal developments and changes in municipal law to ensure accurate and up-to-date legal advice is provided.
  • Collaborate with the League's advocacy efforts to advance the interests of member municipalities in legislative and regulatory matters.
Qualifications

Experience in or exposure to municipal law is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate communicates clearly, accurately, and persuasively in written and oral presentations. Qualified candidates must be able to work both collaboratively and independently on multiple projects at the same time.
