Job summary

Stonewood LLC is seeking a versatile Staff Architect to join our collaborative residential design studio in Minnesota. In this role, you will design exceptional custom homes and high-end remodels, working closely with builders, interior designers, and clients throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Licensure or active pursuit of licensure preferred.
  • Range of experience from a few years to experienced designer.
  • Strong knowledge of detailing, codes, and documentation process.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design concepts from schematic design to construction documents.
  • Produce accurate, well-coordinated drawing sets and details.
  • Collaborate with clients, builders, and designers on design intent.

About the position Join a collaborative residential design studio where great design and great building happen under one roof. As a Staff Architect, you’ll design exceptional custom homes and high-end remodels and work hand-in-hand with builders, interior designers, and clients to turn a vision into a beautifully detailed, buildable home. Position overview

We are seeking a versatile Staff Architect to join our residential design studio. This role is intentionally broad, depending on experience, you may serve anywhere from Project Architect to Lead Architect, owning design and documentation on custom homes and high-end remodels.

You will work closely with our interior design team, builders, and clients throughout the design process, producing thoughtful, well-coordinated work from schematic concepts through permit sets and construction administration. We will scope responsibilities to match your strengths, with room to take on more as you grow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design Development: Develop design concepts and refine them through schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
  • Documentation & Detailing: Produce accurate, well-coordinated drawing sets, details, and specifications that are both beautiful and buildable.
  • Client & Team Collaboration: Partner with clients, interior designers, and builders to align on design intent, budget, and schedule.
  • Coordination: Coordinate with structural, mechanical, and civil consultants to ensure complete, conflict-free documents.
  • Code & Permitting: Ensure designs meet applicable building codes and zoning requirements; support permit submittals and approvals.
  • Construction Administration: Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and conduct site visits to ensure the built work reflects the design.
  • Mentorship & Studio Culture: Mentor junior staff (for senior-level candidates) and contribute to a positive, collaborative studio environment.
education, experience, and skills required
  • Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch); licensure or active pursuit of licensure preferred.
  • Range of experience welcomed, from a few years of residential project work (Project Architect) to a seasoned designer ready to lead (Lead Architect).
  • Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, detailing, codes, and the documentation process.
  • Proficiency in current architectural software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp) and a strong design sensibility.
