Qualifications

  • 7+ years of native Android development with Kotlin.
  • Deep understanding of Android SDK, Jetpack libraries, and modern architectures.
  • Experience with Jetpack Compose and traditional UI frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of Kotlin Coroutines, Flow, DI (Hilt/Dagger), and async programming.
  • Experience consuming RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor engineers.

JOB DESCRIPTION
About The Role
The Staff Android Engineer is responsible for shaping the technical direction of our mobile and CTV Android applications. As a technical leader, you will architect, build, and optimize high-performance applications that deliver exceptional experiences for millions of FOX News users, using modern engineering practices, including agentic AI workflows. You\'ll collaborate closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and fellow mobile developers to deliver intuitive, scalable, and reliable experiences.

This role requires deep Android expertise, strong software architecture skills, and a passion for mentoring engineers while driving engineering excellence across the organization. You’ll also identify opportunities to improve developer productivity through automation, internal tooling, and agentic AI workflows, helping the team ship high-quality features at lightning speed.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the architecture, design, and development of scalable Android applications using modern Android technologies and best practices.
  • Build performant, reliable, and maintainable features for large-scale consumer streaming applications.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Backend, QA, and DevOps throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Drive technical strategy, establish engineering standards, and influence platform direction.
  • Mentor and coach engineers through technical leadership, design reviews, and code reviews.
  • Champion software quality through testing, automation, observability, and continuous integration.
  • Identify opportunities to improve application performance, stability, security, and developer productivity.
  • Champion adoption of AI-assisted development tools across the team, and identify opportunities to build internal developer tools and automations, including AI-powered solutions, to improve engineering workflows.
  • Own application performance, stability, and crash-free rate targets, including modularization, build performance, and adoption of modern tools such as Baseline Profiles and Jetpack Compose.
  • Evaluate emerging Android technologies and recommend adoption where appropriate.
  • Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to long-term technical roadmaps.
  • Help foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing engineering culture.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • 7+ years professional experience developing native Android applications using Kotlin.
  • Deep understanding of Android SDK, Jetpack libraries, and modern Android architecture patterns (MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture).
  • Experience with Jetpack Compose and traditional Android UI frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of Kotlin Coroutines, Flow, dependency injection (Hilt/Dagger), and asynchronous programming.
  • Experience consuming RESTful APIs and integrating backend services.
  • Strong understanding of mobile application performance optimization, debugging, profiling, and memory management.
  • Experience implementing automated testing including unit, integration, and UI testing.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile software development practices.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, or similar) to support software development and improve engineering productivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and influence engineering decisions across teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Regular, on-site attendance at the workplace a minimum of 3 days per week is an essential function of the position. Selected candidate must be able to reliably meet this requirement.

NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER

  • Experience building or maintaining large-scale streaming, media, or OTT applications.
  • Familiarity with ExoPlayer and adaptive streaming technologies (HLS, DASH).
  • Experience with video playback, DRM, offline downloads, and media analytics.
  • Knowledge of Firebase, Crashlytics, and mobile observability tools.
  • Experience supporting Android TV or other connected device platforms.
  • Experience working within a large consumer technology or media organization.
  • Experience integrating LLM APIs or AI services into internal developer tools or consumer-facing features.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $143,000.00-205,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
