Descripción del empleo

PermitFlow is redefining how America builds. We’re an applied AI company serving the nation’s builders, tackling one of the largest information challenges in the economy: understanding what can be built, where, and how. Our AI agent workforce helps the fastest-growing construction companies navigate everything from permitting and licensing to inspections and project closeouts - accelerating housing, clean-energy, and infrastructure development across the country.

Despite being a $1.6T industry, construction still suffers from massive delays, wasted capital, and lost opportunity. PermitFlow has already delivered unprecedented speed, accuracy, and visibility to over $20B in development, helping contractors reduce compliance time, de-risk projects, and scale with confidence.

As the U.S. enters a new capex supercycle across data centers, factories, housing, and renewables, joining PermitFlow means building the AI infrastructure at the core of every construction project driving the next wave of reindustrialization.

We’ve raised over $90M, most recently completing our Series B, (https://www.permitflow.com/blog/permitflow-series-b) from top-tier investors including Accel, Kleiner Perkins (https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7401703305569275904/), Initialized, Y Combinator, Felicis, and Altos Ventures, with backing from leaders at OpenAI, Google, Procore, ServiceTitan, Zillow, PlanGrid, and Uber.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Staff Analytics Engineer to build and shape the data foundation and intelligence layer powering PermitFlow's next stage of growth.

  • This is a high-impact, hands-on individual contributor role at the intersection of analytics engineering, data analysis, and strategic decision-making. You'll own problems end-to-end: architecting our data warehouse, building reliable dbt models and pipelines, establishing trusted metrics, investigating complex business questions, and translating your findings into insights that drive meaningful business outcomes.
  • You'll work directly with leaders and teams across Engineering, Product, Operations, and Customer Success. Rather than operating as a centralized reporting function, you'll partner closely with the business to understand its most important challenges, identify opportunities hidden in the data, and build the analytical capabilities needed to act on them.
  • This role requires both deep technical expertise and strong business intuition. You'll spend substantial time building in SQL and dbt, while also getting hands-on with Python, exploring data, developing analytical models, and presenting recommendations that influence how the company operates and grows. We want someone who understands that great analytics engineering isn't just about building reliable data models; it's about making better decisions possible.
  • We're also building an AI-native data function. You'll have the opportunity to rethink traditional analytics workflows using LLMs and emerging technologies, from automating complex analysis to enabling teams across the company to access and act on data more independently.

You'll have the technical ownership to shape our data architecture, the business exposure to influence company-wide decisions, and the autonomy to build capabilities that will compound in value as PermitFlow scales.

What You'll Do
  • Build and own our data foundation: Architect, develop, and scale our data warehouse, dbt models, transformation pipelines, and core metrics. Establish reliable, well-structured data foundations that serve as the source of truth across the company. dbt will be a core part of your day-to-day work.
  • Drive analytics from question to impact: Partner with cross-functional leaders to identify high-value opportunities, investigate ambiguous business problems, conduct deep-dive analyses, and turn complex data into clear insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Build AI-powered analytics capabilities: Explore and implement LLM-powered workflows, AI agents, and automation to accelerate analysis, reduce manual work, improve data accessibility, and fundamentally rethink how teams interact with information.
  • Establish technical standards and data quality: Set the bar for data modeling, architecture, testing, documentation, observability, and governance. Build scalable systems that produce trusted, consistent, and reliable data as the business grows.
  • Influence strategic business decisions: Work directly with leaders across Operations, Customer Success, Product, and Engineering to define KPIs, evaluate business performance, identify operational bottlenecks, and uncover opportunities to improve efficiency, growth, and customer outcomes.
  • Make data accessible across the organization: Develop intuitive dashboards, reporting systems, and self-service analytics tools that empower teams to answer complex questions independently and make faster, better-informed decisions.
  • Shape our data strategy: Influence our long-term data architecture, tooling, and operating model. Help define how a modern, AI-native data function should operate as PermitFlow scales.
What We're Looking For
  • Deep analytics engineering experience: Significant experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, data analytics, or business intelligence, with a track record of independently owning complex, high-impact initiatives.
  • Expert SQL and dbt skills: Exceptional SQL proficiency and deep, hands-on experience building production-grade dbt models, designing dimensional data models, and developing transformation workflows in modern cloud data warehouses.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals: Proficiency in Python and experience building reliable, scalable data pipelines, analytical workflows, and data infrastructure.
  • AI-forward mindset: Practical experience leveraging LLMs, AI agents, or AI-powered tools to improve analytics workflows, automate processes, or make data more accessible. You're curious about emerging technologies and excited to challenge traditional approaches.
  • Full-stack data capabilities: You combine strong engineering fundamentals with genuine analytical depth. You're equally comfortable architecting data models, writing production-quality code, exploring datasets, and developing insights that inform business decisions.
  • Exceptional analytical and business judgment: You know how to break down ambiguous problems, ask the right questions, identify meaningful patterns, and translate complex findings into clear recommendations with measurable business impact.
  • Technical leadership and ownership: You've independently led complex, cross-functional initiatives from problem definition through execution. You can establish technical direction, influence architectural decisions, and raise the bar for engineering quality without relying on formal authority.
  • Strong communication and influence: You can partner effectively with engineers, executives, and business operators. You're able to explain technical trade-offs, communicate analytical findings, and influence decisions through clear, compelling reasoning.
  • A builder's mentality: You're proactive, resourceful, and energized by solving difficult problems in a fast-moving environment. You take ownership beyond your immediate responsibilities and care deeply about the outcomes your work creates.
Why Join PermitFlow?
  • Build at an inflection point: Join a rapidly scaling, venture-backed company where you can shape foundational systems and influence the direction of the data function before it becomes entrenched.
  • Own problems that matter: Work on complex, high-impact challenges that directly influence how the company operates, scales, and serves its customers.
  • Define the future of AI-powered analytics: Help pioneer how LLMs and AI transform the way an organization accesses data, generates insights, and makes decisions.
  • Work directly with leadership: Partner closely with leaders across the company, giving you meaningful visibility into business strategy and the opportunity to influence decisions at every level.
  • Operate with autonomy and impact: Have the trust and ownership to take initiatives from initial idea to production, establish technical standards, and see your work translate into tangible business outcomes.
  • Shape something from the ground up: Help build the data capabilities, technical culture, and operating model that will support PermitFlow's next chapter of growth.

If you're excited about building the data foundation and intelligence layer behind an AI-native company, solving complex problems, and seeing your work directly shape how a business operates and grows, we'd love to meet you.
