Job summary

Helsing is seeking a hands-on Staff Software Engineer to anchor backend architecture, shipping code across distributed systems on Rust and Python. You will own projects from prototype to deployment on physical hardware, designing robust, high‑performance systems and mentoring engineers.

You will translate technical designs for product managers and customers, drive RFCs, review contributions, and help scale the engineering organization across Europe.

Qualifications

• Proven track record of writing highly legible, maintainable, and performance-optimised systems code.
• Systems-level thinker capable of long-term design for integrating multiple heterogeneous systems.
• Excellent English communication, both written and spoken, with ability to explain complex architectural decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring and conducting pair programming and peer code reviews.
• Comfortable working asynchronously, writing robust PRs and leading RFC discussions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the review of complex code contributions, design proposals, and technical RFCs.
• Architect, propose, and implement major features, capabilities, or full products across the stack.
• Translate technical designs for product managers and customers into clear actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers, grow the team, and drive the interviewing pipeline.
• Present work at weekly demos and foster engineering culture across the organization.
• Maintain and evolve the existing software stack (Rust and Python), diagnosing issues and reducing technical debt.
