Lumin Digital is seeking a Staff AI Organizational Architect to own the technical strategy for AI across the company. This senior IC will align AI investments with business outcomes and work across Risk, Compliance, and Legal to ensure responsible AI practices.

The role sits at the intersection of hands‑on depth and enterprise advisory, delivering scalable, credible guidance to executives, engineering teams, and stakeholders. Minimal travel involved.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent experience.
• Master's degree in a related field preferred.
• Relevant AI/ML, cloud, or enterprise‑architecture certs are a plus.

Basic Function

Lumin Digital is hiring a Staff AI Organizational Architect to own the technical strategy for how we use AI across the company. This is a senior individual contributor role responsible for bringing clarity and accountability to Lumin's growing AI investment: understanding where AI is creating genuine value, reducing what isn't working, and helping the company scale what is. The right person will sit at the intersection of hands‑on technical depth and enterprise‑level advisory work, serving as a trusted resource for executives, engineering teams, and cross‑functional partners including Risk, Compliance, and Legal. Success in this role means Lumin's AI spend is better understood, better directed, and more consistently tied to business outcomes.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Define and continuously evolve Lumin's internal AI technical strategy, including evaluation of models, vendors, platforms, frameworks, and deployment architectures against criteria of capability, cost, reliability, security, and business fit.
• Build and maintain clear visibility into AI usage, adoption, and spend across the enterprise; help leaders connect AI investment to meaningful business outcomes and identify where spend should be reduced or increased.
• Serve as a trusted technical advisor to executives, business leaders, and engineering teams evaluating AI use cases, experiments, and implementation approaches.
• Help successful AI experiments become repeatable, supportable capabilities; distinguish productive experimentation from work unlikely to create sufficient value.
• Partner with Risk, Compliance, and Legal to evolve Lumin's approach to responsible AI use, including establishing practical standards, decision rights, review processes, and escalation paths.
• Own a defined cadence of reviews for AI platforms, models, configurations, and controls; maintain current awareness of emerging risks and capabilities.
• Establish and communicate Lumin's internal AI standards, reference architectures, and recommended technologies; provide consistent, technically credible guidance to the organization.
• Challenge weak assumptions, unnecessary complexity, and poor technology choices across teams; translate rapidly changing AI capabilities into practical recommendations.
• Personally evaluate AI models, APIs, and frameworks through direct implementation. Not just vendor briefings or architectural review.
• Prototype and validate new AI capabilities before recommending them for broader adoption; own the technical risk assessment through working code, not just documentation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Specifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Master's degree in a related field preferred.
• Relevant certifications in AI/ML, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), or enterprise architecture are a plus.

Experience

• 8+ years in software engineering, solutions architecture, or a closely related technical discipline.
• 3+ years of hands‑on experience designing, evaluating, or implementing production AI systems (not just consuming AI tools).
• 2+ years working with LLMs and model APIs in product contexts - RAG, agents, or fine‑tuning at scale (OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, or equivalent).
• 2+ years working in a regulated or compliance‑sensitive environment such as financial services, fintech, or healthcare.
• 1+ years designing or contributing to enterprise‑scale technical standards, reference architectures, or governance frameworks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required:

• Deep working knowledge of large language models, model APIs, AI platforms, agentic systems, and retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG).
• Ability to evaluate AI vendors, models, and deployment approaches against real tradeoffs: capability, cost, reliability, security, and operational fit.
• Strong command of AI economics: usage‑based pricing, infrastructure tradeoffs, and cost optimization at scale.
• Familiarity with AI security and data privacy considerations relevant to enterprise deployments.
• Demonstrated ability to advise executives and non‑technical leaders with clear, direct recommendations.
• Experience influencing technology decisions across an organization without relying on direct authority.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to produce technically credible and actionable enterprise communications.
• Organized, self‑directed, and comfortable operating with minimal oversight in an ambiguous, fast‑moving environment.

Preferred / Nice to Have:

• Experience in financial services, fintech, or SaaS.
• Prior Staff, Principal, or VP‑level IC role with cross‑functional scope.
• Experience building or running internal AI enablement programs, communities of practice, or governance councils.
• Familiarity with formal AI governance and responsible AI frameworks.
• Industry visibility through writing, speaking, or open‑source contribution.

Travel:

• Minimal, generally 12 days or less per year, ~2X team get togethers a year
