Job summary

Austal USA is seeking an Accounting Accountant to perform GAAP and IFRS accounting, close month-end entries, and support year-end financial reporting. The role involves asset tagging, liaising with auditors, and maintaining accounting policies.

The ideal candidate will have 0–3 years' related experience, a BS/BA in Accounting or Finance, and strong MS Office skills. This is an on-site position with related safety requirements in Mobile, AL.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with 0-3 years of experience in a related field, preferably in manufacturing or corporate accounting, required.
  • Proficient computer and technical aptitude to utilize MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of FAR, DFAR, IFRS, GAAP and CAS.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of personal accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Performs accounting responsibilities in accordance with GAAP and IFRS.
  • Prepares month end closing journal entries and GL account reconciliations and investigates discrepancies.
  • Assists with preparation and compilation of monthly and year-end financial reporting support schedules.
  • Prepares reports and supporting documentation for account reconciliations.
  • Assist with tagging and tracking of fixed assets.
  • Coordinates with external and internal auditors to ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned by Finance Management.
  • Maintains written policy and procedures for area of responsibility.

REPORTS TO: Accounting Manager

SUPERVISES: N/A

Authorities / Responsibilities
  • Performs accounting responsibilities in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Prepares month end closing journal entries and general ledger (GL) account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies in account balances.
  • Assists senior accounting personnel with preparation and compilation of monthly and year-end financial reporting support schedules for all Austal USA entities.
  • Prepares reports and supporting documentation for account reconciliations.
  • Assist with tagging and tracking of fixed assets.
  • Coordinates and liaisons with external and internal auditors/reviewers to ensure compliance with proper reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned by Finance Management.
  • Maintains written policy and procedures for area of responsibility.
  • Maintains compliance with Company policies and procedures.

Minimum Education Required

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
  • BS/BA Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with 0-3 years of experience in a related field, preferably in manufacturing or corporate accounting, required.
  • Proficient computer and technical aptitude to utilize MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of FAR, DFAR, IFRS, GAAP and CAS.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams/organizations with attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Excellent attention to detail, organization skills a must.
  • Flexible and has the capability to deliver results in a fast paced, and high-volume environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of personal accountability.
  • Ability to go in the shipyard, including off-site warehouse(s) and Austal's West Campus, and conduct interviews. This includes physically climbing stairs and moving safely through constructions areas on and off vessels.

The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities.
