Job summary

Hungerford, a Grand Rapids-based firm offering tax, audit, accounting, and advisory services, seeks a Staff Accountant to support client advisory services across West Michigan. You will perform routine accounting, reconcile ledgers, process payroll and sales tax, and collaborate with experienced advisors to help clients make informed decisions.

A Bachelor's in Accounting, internship experience, and proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Office are preferred; CPA exam support is

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or related field.
• Previous accounting internship or relevant accounting experience.
• Public accounting experience preferred.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word).
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; client-focused demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine accounting functions and balance sheet reconciliations for client accounts.
• Manage accounts payable processes and maintain vendor records.
• Process payroll and payroll tax reporting activities.
• Prepare and file sales and use tax returns accurately and on time.
• Assist with annual information reporting requirements, including 1099 filings.
• Develop proficiency in client accounting and workflow technologies (QuickBooks Online, BILL, Gusto, Asana).
• Monitor project budgets, deadlines, and client expectations.
• Communicate proactively with clients and internal team members to ensure excellent service delivery.
• Support special accounting, reporting, and advisory projects as assigned.

Your Impact

As a Staff Accountant in Client Advisory Services, you'll support a diverse portfolio of business and nonprofit clients across West Michigan. In this role, you'll help clients maintain accurate financial information, streamline accounting processes, and make informed business decisions. Working closely with clients and experienced advisors, you'll gain exposure to a variety of industries while developing your technical accounting knowledge and consulting skills. How You Will Add Value

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field
• Completion of a previous accounting internship or relevant accounting experience
• Public accounting experience preferred
