Job summary

Continental Finance Company, a growing financial technology firm, seeks a Staff Accountant to support GAAP-based accounting and the general ledger. The role involves processing payables, reconciliations, month-end close, and reporting.

Hybrid work with core in-office days three days a week. Ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s in accounting, with 1+ year in credit card/financial services, and strong Excel and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Minimum 1 year of credit card or financial services experience preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience reconciling cash accounts preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting principles and financial reporting (P&Ls, balance sheets, income statements) a plus.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills; attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Accounting Managers with the day-to-day, monthly and year-end operations of the Accounting Department.
  • Process and record accounts payable transactions and ensure invoices and reimbursements are paid accurately.
  • Process allocations, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, depreciation and adjusting/reclassification entries.
  • Perform general ledger analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements and fixed assets.
  • Verify data accuracy from vendors and internal reports.
  • Prepare and reconcile general ledger entries; maintain records.
  • Streamline and automate accounting procedures by analyzing processes and recommending changes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Continental Finance Company specializes in credit card options for those consumers with less than perfect credit. We are seeking a Staff Accountant to support our Accounting team.

The Staff Accountant will support the overall maintenance and administration of the General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, applying the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Essential Functions:
  • Assist the Accounting Managers with the day-to-day, monthly and year-end operations of the Accounting Department.
  • Perform the processing and recording of accounts payable transactions and ensure that all invoices and staff reimbursements are paid accurately and in accordance with Accounting policies and procedures
  • Perform the processing of functional and benefits expense allocations, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed assets depreciation and recording of adjusting and reclassification journal entries, if necessary.
  • Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, fixed assets, employer’s benefit costs, accruals, and prepaid expenses.
  • Verify the accuracy of data received from vendors and internal company reports.
  • Prepare general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accounts.
  • Streamline and automate accounting procedures by analyzing current processes and recommending changes.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Minimum 1 year of credit card or financial services experience preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience reconciling cash accounts preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in accounting principles and best practices. Experience with P&Ls, balance sheets, & income statements a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, and advanced Excel).
  • High level of interpersonal skills with demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to clearly communicate issues to all levels of management.
