Backcountry is hiring a Staff Accountant in Cottonwood Heights, UT, with hybrid in-office Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You will own core month-end close tasks, including journal entries, accruals, bank reconciliations, and revenue/cash cycle management across multiple channels.

Qualifications

• 0 to 3 years of public or corporate accounting experience (internships count).
• Solid US GAAP fundamentals, including accruals and account reconciliations.
• Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets.
• Strong written, verbal, and analytical skills.
• Accuracy under tight deadlines with the ability to juggle multiple priorities during month-end close.
• Willingness to learn and curiosity about incorporating AI into accounting workflows.
• Able to work in-office in Cottonwood Heights, Utah on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

About the Role

Backcountry's accounting team has gone through significant turnover and is rebuilding. This role owns core month-end close work — journal entries, accruals, bank and payment channel reconciliations, and the revenue and cash cycle across our multi-channel platforms.

As Staff Accountant, you will execute close tasks accurately and on time, build well-documented reconciliations, develop a working command of NetSuite and the consolidation process, and find at least one manual task to streamline with AI or automation within your first year.

This is a lean team. You will own a lot, move fast, and make decisions with full end-to-end responsibility.

What You'll Do

• Experience with Oracle NetSuite or another ERP system
• Public accounting background (audit or tax)
• Multi-entity or consolidated accounting experience
• Exposure to Looker or other BI tools
• Retail or e-commerce industry experience

Interview Process

1. Recruiter Screen - A 30-minute phone conversation with our recruiting team to discuss your background, interest in the role, Excel comfort, AI curiosity, availability, and logistics.
2. Hiring Manager Interview - A 45-minute video conversation with the VP of Accounting focused on your attention to detail, initiative, accounting fundamentals, and how you approach problem-solving.
3. Take-Home Case Study - A role-appropriate case study focused on problem-solving and critical thinking, sent after the Hiring Manager Interview and presented during the Panel Interview.
4. In-Person Panel Interview - A 90-minute in-person session at our Cottonwood Heights office where you will present your case study and meet members of the accounting and FP&A teams. Details and logistics will be arranged with your recruiter.
5. Reference Checks - Conducted in parallel with the final stages where possible.
6. Offer - We move quickly for the right candidate.
