SUMMARY OF POSITION

LOCATION: City of Pasco, WA (on-site)

JOB TYPE: Regular/Full-Time

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (flex scheduling may be available per department approval)

FIRST REVIEW DATE: Open until filled, with first review on August 31st

THE ROLE: As a Staff Accountant, you will play a critical role in maintaining the City's financial integrity by supporting general ledger functions, preparing financial reports, and assisting with budgeting and financial management activities. This position ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Washington State Auditor requirements while supporting sound internal controls.

The ideal candidate will have at least three years of professional accounting experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to interpret complex financial data. You will collaborate with Finance staff, City departments, and external agencies to support financial reporting, audits, and fiscal planning.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Preparing financial statements, reports, and projections in accordance with GAAP

  • Monitoring fund activity and resolving discrepancies

A background check will be required upon acceptance of a conditional offer.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Three (3) or more years of accounting experience, including financial reporting and application of GAAP
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and governmental accounting practices
  • Proficiency in spreadsheets and financial systems
  • Ability to analyze financial data and perform complex calculations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in governmental accounting
  • Experience with grant accounting and debt service tracking
  • Knowledge of Washington State accounting and reporting requirements
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or progress toward certification
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
