Job summary

EMR Group is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our finance team onsite in Minnesota. You will support financial reporting, month‑end close, reconciliations, and analysis while working closely with the Senior Financial Accountant and VP of Finance.

We value curiosity, analytical thinking, and a collaborative approach. You’ll gain broad exposure to finance and operations, contribute to process improvements, and visit EMR’s operational sites during training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 2–4 years of accounting experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with an accounting system.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, journal entries and reconciliations.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate accounting records and documentation.
• Perform monthly account reconciliations, investigate variances and resolve discrepancies.
• Assist with monthly and year‑end close processes, including accruals, prepaid expenses, inventory and balance sheet accounts.
• Assist with financial statements, management reports, audits, tax requests and supporting schedules.
• Support the Senior Financial Accountant and VP of Finance with reporting and analysis.
• Identify unusual transactions or variances and help improve accounting processes and controls.
• Learn the business and support operations across EMR’s sites.

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. In this role, you’ll work closely with the Senior Financial Accountant and VP of Finance, supporting key accounting processes while taking on meaningful responsibility across financial reporting, month end close, reconciliations, and analysis.

This position offers the opportunity to gain broad exposure to both finance and operations within EMR, a global leader in metal recycling. You’ll have the opportunity to work directly with operational teams, understand the business behind the numbers and contribute to process improvements and special projects. We’re looking for someone who is curious, analytical, and ready to grow their accounting expertise while becoming a valued member of our finance team.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate accounting records and documentation.
• Preform monthly account reconciliations, investigate variances and resolve discrepancies.
• Assist with monthly and year-end close processes, including accruals, prepaid expenses, inventory and other balance sheet accounts.
• Assist with financial statements, management reports, audits, tax requests and supporting schedules.
• Support the Senior Financial Accountant and VP of Finance with reporting, analysis, and other accounting functions as needed.
• Identify unusual transactions, trends or variances and assist with improving accounting processes and internal controls.

Learn the Business & Support Operations

• Develop an understanding of EMR’s scrap recycling business and how materials and operations flow through the accounting process.
• Build relationships with operational teams and learn how day to day activities impact financial results.
• Gain firsthand knowledge of our facilities, processes, and key operational and financial metrics.
• Work with operations to connect business activity to financial results, identify discrepancies, and improve the accuracy and efficiency of financial information.
• Must be willing to visit other EMR operational sites during initial training

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
• 2-4 years of accounting experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with an accounting system
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, journal entries, account reconciliations and month-end close procedures
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with AI/Copilot is a plus

Compensation and Benefits

• $70,000-$90,000 annual salary
• Monday-Friday, full-time onsite. No option for remote work
