Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA certification, CPA candidate status, or public accounting experience preferred.
  • Two to four years of progressive accounting, audit, financial reporting, or corporate finance experience; Big 4 or national public accounting valued.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, close processes, accruals, reserves, and financial statement analysis.
  • Able to analyze financial data, research variances, and summarize conclusions for finance and non-finance audiences.
  • Advanced Excel with pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and large data set handling.
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools; ability to learn Microsoft D365 and improve reporting.
  • Knowledge of AI solutions or aptitude to quickly learn to use AI tools for efficiency.
  • Attention to detail balanced with business context and prioritization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for clear explanations of accounting matters.
  • Ability to manage deadlines during close cycles in a fast-paced corporate finance environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review journal entries and reconciliations with accuracy and timely resolution of issues.
  • Analyze monthly results, departmental spending, accruals, prepaids, and key accounts.
  • Perform variance analysis and explain drivers to finance and partners.
  • Support month-end and quarter-end close with deliverables and timelines.
  • Collaborate with Corporate departments on expense activity, invoicing, and cost allocations.
  • Analyze intercompany activity and ensure proper coding and eliminations.
  • Prepare analyses of accruals, reserves, assets, liabilities, and other estimates.
  • Assist forecasting and budgeting with schedules and trend analysis.
  • Create reporting tools and analyses to improve visibility for leadership.
  • Support audit requests with schedules and documentation.
  • Identify process gaps and opportunities to strengthen controls.

Scope Of Position

The Staff Accountant will play an analytical role within Corporate Finance, supporting the monthly close, financial reporting, account reconciliations, management analysis, and business partnering activities. This position is designed for an accounting professional who can move beyond transaction processing to explain financial results, identify trends and risks, strengthen controls, and provide clear, decision-useful insights to finance and business leaders.

  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules with a focus on accuracy, completeness, and timely resolution of reconciling items.
  • Analyze monthly financial results, including departmental spending, accruals, prepaid expenses, and other key accounts.
  • Perform variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior periods; investigate drivers of change and communicate clear explanations to finance and business partners.
  • Support the month-end and quarter-end close process by preparing close deliverables, identifying unusual activity, and helping ensure reporting deadlines are met.
  • Partner with Corporate departments to review expense activity, invoice coding, contract payments, and cost allocations to ensure proper accounting treatment and expense recognition.
  • Analyze intercompany invoices, allocations, and related general ledger activity to ensure appropriate coding, documentation, and elimination support.
  • Prepare analyses related to accruals, reserves, assets, liabilities, expenditures, and other accounting estimates,
  • Support periodic forecasting and annual budgeting by preparing financial schedules, analyzing trends, and translating business activity into meaningful financial assumptions.
  • Create and maintain reporting tools, schedules, and analyses that improve visibility into financial performance and help leaders make informed decisions.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests by preparing schedules, gathering support, explaining account activity, and maintaining audit-ready documentation.
  • Evaluate internal control considerations within assigned areas, identify process gaps or inefficiencies, and recommend practical improvements.
  • Ensure accounting transactions are performed in accordance with company policies, GAAP principles, reporting deadlines, and a sound internal control environment.
  • Use Excel and financial systems to organize data, perform account analysis, identify exceptions, and summarize findings in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Finance and cross-functional teams to answer questions, resolve issues, and provide analytical support on special projects.
  • Continuously look for opportunities to streamline close activities, improve reporting quality, automate recurring analysis, and strengthen the overall finance operating model.
  • Prepare annual census forms.
  • Perform additional work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE/ EDUCATION: (Minimum Education and/or Experience required)
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA certification, CPA candidate status, or public accounting experience preferred.
  • Two to four years of progressive accounting, audit, financial reporting, or corporate finance experience; experience in a Big 4 or national public accounting environment is highly valued.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, month-end close processes, accruals, prepaids, reserves, and financial statement analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data, research variances, identify root causes, and summarize conclusions for both finance and non-finance audiences.
  • Advanced Excel capability, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, data organization, and the ability to build clear analytical schedules from large data sets.
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools preferred; ideally Microsoft D365, demonstrated ability to learn new systems and improve reporting processes.
  • Experience with AI solutions or ability to quickly learn to leverage tools for efficiency.
  • Strong attention to detail balanced with the ability to step back, understand business context, and identify what matters most.
