BDO USA is seeking a Staff Accountant to support Government Services accounting operations, including preparing and reviewing financial information, reconciliations, and journal entries. You will help maintain accurate records and assist with internal controls and reporting requirements.

The role emphasizes teamwork with cross-functional groups, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task across monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes, while supporting audits and ad hoc analyses.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required or preferred.
  • Three (3) or more years of general accounting experience is required.
  • CPA is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the preparation of monthly account reconciliations and journal entries, including follow-up on outstanding items.
  • Assists with accruals, prepaid expenses, and intercompany entries.
  • Supports the application of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Prepares and analyzes financial data to support reporting requirements and decision-making.
  • Assists with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
  • Supports annual audit activities by gathering documentation and responding to requests.
  • Prepares ad hoc reports, schedules, and analyses, as needed.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to support financial reporting accuracy and efficiency.
  • Other duties, as required.

Job Duties
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly account reconciliations and journal entries, including follow-up on outstanding items
  • Assists with accruals, prepaid expenses, and intercompany entries
  • Supports the application of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Prepares and analyzes financial data to support reporting requirements and decision-making
  • Assists with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes

Education
  • Bachelor's degree, required; with a focus in Accounting or Finance, preferred
Experience
  • Three (3) or more years of general accounting experience, required
  • Prior experience working within a professional services firm such as accounting, financial services, business advisory and/or banking industries, preferred
License/Certifications
  • CPA, preferred
Software
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, required
  • Prior experience using Unanet and/or NetSuite ERP, preferred

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $60,000 - $80,000

Maryland Range: $60,000 - $80,000

NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $60,000 - $80,000
