Job summary

Benchmark Insurance Group is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our fast-growing Texas-based team. The role supports financial operations across insurance brokerage, MGA, and risk management with a focus on transparency and process improvement.

You will handle day-to-day accounting, agency bill and trust accounting, AR management, and monthly reporting, while helping advance profitability analysis and internal controls. A business-minded approach and comfort with KPI tracking are essential.

Qualifications

  • 3–7 years accounting experience.
  • Experience with commission accounting preferred.
  • Experience with accounts receivable and collections.
  • Experience with financial reporting and reconciliations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial statements and close activities.
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and journal entries.
  • Reconcile agency bill transactions and trust accounts.
  • Monitor receivables and coordinate collections with Account Managers.
  • Prepare monthly producer commission reports and KPI dashboards.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control initiatives.

Position Summary

Benchmark Insurance Group is seeking a highly organized, analytical, and technology-driven Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of a rapidly growing insurance brokerage, MGA, and risk management firm specializing in real estate, construction, hospitality, and commercial insurance. The ideal candidate is not simply an accountant but a business-minded financial professional who enjoys building processes, improving systems, and creating financial visibility for leadership.

This role will be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations, agency bill reconciliations, commission accounting, carrier payables, accounts receivable management, trust accounting support, financial reporting, and KPI tracking. The Staff Accountant will play a critical role in helping Benchmark improve operational efficiency, cash flow management, profitability analysis, and financial controls. Financial transparency, commission reconciliation, trust accounting, and monthly reporting have been identified as strategic priorities for the organization.

Primary Responsibilities
Financial Accounting
  • Prepare monthly financial statements
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy
  • Perform month-end and year-end close activities
  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Review and reconcile bank accounts and credit card transactions
  • Assist in annual tax preparation and audits
Agency Bill & Trust Accounting
  • Reconcile agency bill transactions
  • Reconcile trust accounts monthly
  • Monitor carrier payables and receivables
  • Ensure compliance with Texas insurance trust accounting requirements
  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies
  • Trust accounting and monthly reconciliation procedures are key agency initiatives.
Accounts Receivable Management
  • Monitor customer aged receivables
  • Identify delinquent accounts
  • Coordinate collections efforts with Account Managers
  • Produce monthly AR reports
  • Assist leadership in reducing bad debt exposure
  • Benchmark has identified accounts receivable management and collection procedures as a strategic priority.
Commission Accounting
  • Calculate and reconcile broker commissions
  • Reconcile carrier commission statements
  • Prepare monthly producer commission reports
  • Validate commission calculations against agency agreements
  • Assist with commission plan administration
  • Commission reconciliation and reporting are core accounting objectives.
Financial Reporting & KPIs

Prepare monthly:

  • Profit & Loss Statements
  • Balance Sheets
  • Cash Flow Reports
  • Aged Receivables Reports
  • Producer Production Reports
  • Department KPI Reports
  • Vendor Expense Analysis
  • Budget vs Actual Reports
  • Benchmark emphasizes monthly KPI reporting and operational accountability across all departments.
Operational Analysis
  • Analyze agency profitability
  • Track revenue by department
  • Monitor retention and growth metrics
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction
  • Review recurring vendor expenses
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting
  • Benchmark is actively focused on cost controls, operational efficiency, and profitability analysis.
Technology & Process Improvement
  • Assist with AMS360 accounting integration
  • Support QuickBooks administration
  • Help automate financial reporting
  • Improve accounting workflows
  • Maintain accounting SOPs
  • Support financial dashboard development
  • Benchmark’s growth strategy relies heavily on technology integration, automation, and data visibility.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Experience
  • 3-7 years accounting experience
  • Insurance agency, MGA, brokerage, or financial services experience preferred
  • Experience with commission accounting preferred
  • Experience with accounts receivable and collections
  • Experience with financial reporting and reconciliations
