Job summary

Tri-City Group seeks an Accountant in Davenport, IA to support general ledger, project accounting and month-end close for a large construction company. You will prepare journal entries, perform reconciliations, support ASC 606 revenue recognition, and assist with audits.

The role requires 1–3 years of accounting experience in construction or project-based accounting, familiarity with ERP systems, and strong Excel and communication skills. Monday–Friday, on-site schedule with standard hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
• 1–3 years progressive accounting experience; construction project focus preferred.
• Public company or SOX exposure is a plus; CPA/CPA-eligible is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare routine journal entries and supporting docs.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close.
• Perform account reconciliations including cash, accruals, and fixed assets.
• Investigate variances and resolve reconciling items.
• Support job cost accounting for construction projects and WIP.
• Assist in revenue recognition under ASC 606; review costs and billings.
• Collate project financial information with managers and teams.
• Prepare internal reports and management schedules.
• Support audits by providing documentation and explanations.
• Ensure SOX controls and accounting policies are followed.
• Maintain accounting process documentation and seek improvements.
• Provide backup support to senior accountants as needed.

Tri-City Group is currently seekingan Accountant for an immediate opening in Davenport, IA. The Staff Accountant supports the accounting operations of a large, publicly traded construction company by performing general ledger, project accounting, and financial close activities. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close, and ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal controls. The Staff Accountant works closely with senior accounting staff, project teams, and other finance partners,

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Prepare routine journal entries and supporting documentation
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
• Perform account reconciliations, including cash, prepaid expenses, accruals, and fixed assets
• Investigate and resolve reconciling items and variances
• Support job cost accounting for construction projects, including cost tracking, accruals, and WIP schedules
• Assist with revenue recognition activities under ASC 606, including review of costs, billings, and retainage
• Partner with project managers to obtain and verify project financial information
• Assist in the preparation of internal financial reports and management schedules
• Support external and internal audit requests by providing documentation and explanations
• Comply with company accounting policies, procedures, and SOX internal control requirements
• Maintain accurate documentation for accounting processes and controls
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy in accounting workflows
• Provide support to senior accountants and cross-functional teams as needed
  

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM -5:00 PM. Occasional changes to the work schedule may be required as job duties demand.

Competencies:

• Basic to intermediate knowledge of U.S. GAAP
• Familiarity with construction accounting concepts (job cost, WIP, billings) preferred
• Experience with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, JD Edwards, Workday, or similar)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis)
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to learn and take on increasing responsibility
• Effective written and verbal communication skills

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
• 1-3 years ofprogressive accounting experience; construction industry or project-based accounting experience preferred
• Public company or SOX environment exposure is a plus
• CPA or CPA-eligible preferred
