Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) seeks an Associate Engineer in Elko to lead Independent Assurance QA activities, train and certify field testing staff, and manage audit reports and on-site inspections. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is recruiting for a Staff 1, Associate Engineer located within the Construction Division Independent Assurance (IA) Lab in Elko, Nevada. The incumbent will be responsible to conduct quality assurance program management to maintain compliance with 23 CFR Part 637B and state regulations, this includes instruct, train, evaluate and certify department field testing engineers; maintain compliance with the administration of the Independent Assurance Program, this includes on-site QA field inspection audits, generate detailed audit reports, maintain IA Lab facility and support crew field labs. The position requires the candidate to maintain program development and management, this includes analyzing, reviewing and updating the field-testing documents. The incumbent is required to obtain Nevada Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction (NAQTC) certification and American Concrete Institute (ACI) certification within the first year of employment. Travel up to 50% is required to fulfill this position throughout the State, using a state vehicle or airplane transportation. Associate Engineers perform a broad range of engineering work not requiring licensure by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors and their technical expertise in the particular program area and/or knowledge acquired in a baccalaureate course of study in engineering or a related discipline. In addition, Associate Engineer duties are typically distinguished from advanced Engineering Technician duties by a greater responsibility for reviewing, interpreting and using judgment to make recommendations and determinations based on data received, organized, compiled and summarized by lower level technical staff including Engineering TechniciansCertification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
