Job description

Position Overview

The Department’s Statewide System of Support (SSoS) in the District and School Assistance Unit (DSA) provides targeted support to districts with multiple schools that are designated as focused/targeted. The SSoS Program Specialist works with the SSoS team and vendor partners to create centralized systems and practices that improve efficiency, accuracy and alignment of efforts that help districts reach student outcome goals.

Responsibilities
  • Centralized support for school and district planning (developing and updating SSoS guidance, reviewing annual plan submissions, ensuring alignment to guidance and state/federal requirements).
  • Communicate and collaborate through internal SharePoint, website and Google Drive; support documentation organization for efficient access.
  • Support internal data use, including: tool creation for accountability data, Education‑to‑Career hub displays, SSoS School Observation data collection and summary reports; analyze qualitative and quantitative data to inform progress monitoring and program evaluation; build capacity in the SSoS team to use data.
  • Direct support to schools and districts for plan development, implementation and progress monitoring.
  • Cross‑office collaboration aligned to SSoS goals.
  • Project or contract management as needed.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in public K‑12 schools or a similar educational context.
  • Experience contributing to school and/or district improvement efforts that resulted in improved student outcomes, especially for students in the largest gaps.
  • Demonstrated instructional leadership with an understanding of MA curriculum standards and WIDA language development standards.
  • Demonstrated equity and racial equity leadership by centering the experiences of underserved students and addressing equity and racial equity challenges.
  • Ability to build strong partnerships with district and school leaders in the state’s lowest performing schools and districts.
  • Ability to communicate in a compelling and adaptive manner to build trust and partnership; give and receive direct feedback to move adult practice.
  • Outcome‑oriented, demonstrating high expectations and a commitment to impactful results for students.
  • Effective collaborator who takes initiative and can give, receive and act on feedback; able to lead from within and be a learner; work independently and collaboratively in a complex environment.
  • Strong organization, time‑management and project management skills; manage multiple priorities in a high‑demand, fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs, conditions and responsibilities.
  • Strong written, verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Creative problem‑solving, solutions‑oriented; able to consider both the big picture and details.
  • Track record of analyzing and communicating themes from complex data to inform decision‑making and monitor impact.
  • Experience supporting external partnerships and/or cross‑office or cross‑function teams.
  • Knowledge or experience with tools and platforms that enhance team collaboration, communication and efficiency.
Minimum Entrance Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least four (4) years of full‑time (or equivalent part‑time) professional educational experience in a specific or related content area, educational program or service.
  • A Master’s degree or higher may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience; 30 semester hours equals one year of experience for substitution purposes.
  • Education toward a degree in a related content area will be prorated based on the proportion of requirements actually completed.
Special Requirements
  • Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s License (or the equivalent from another state) may be required based on assignment.

Location / Hybrid Work Schedule

Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Everett, MA. This hybrid, full‑time position requires in‑person work two days per week, increasing to three days per week beginning August 31, 2026.
