Job summary

Mike Hooks, LLC is seeking a Site Safety and Health Officer to ensure the safety and compliance of construction sites along the Gulf Coast. You will collaborate with project managers to embed safety into planning, monitor environmental compliance, and uphold OSHA/EHS standards.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Safety Officer or similar role in the construction industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and EHS standards.
  • Five years of continuous experience supervising dredging, marine, or related construction activities.
  • OSHA-30 hour construction safety or equivalent training.
  • TWIC card and valid driver’s license.

Job description

As a Site Safety and Health Officer at Mike Hooks LLC, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our construction sites. Located along the entire Gulf Coast, this position is essential for maintaining a safe working environment for all employees while adhering to industry regulations and standards.

  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits on construction sites to identify hazards.
  • Provide training and support to employees on safety practices and compliance requirements.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety training, incidents, and compliance reports.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure safety measures are integrated into project planning.
  • Monitor compliance with environmental regulations related to construction activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Recommended corrective actions across the dredge fleet.

Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Safety Officer or similar role in the construction industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and EHS standards.
  • Strong understanding of occupational health practices related to construction work.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective training and reporting.
  • Ability to conduct thorough inspections and risk assessments.
  • Familiarity with construction management software is a plus.
  • Minimum of five years of continuous experience within the past 5 years in supervising/managing dredging, marine or land-based construction, work managing safety programs or processes, or conducting hazards analyses and developing controls in activities or environments with similar hazards.
  • The SSHO must be able to conduct daily safety and health inspection and maintain a written log which includes area/operations inspection, date of inspection, identified hazards, recommended corrective actions, estimated and actual dates of corrections.
  • Must be able to work 14 day-on/7 day-off- 12 hours a day shift.
  • Must be willing to travel and live on assigned dredge when applicable.
Certifications or Licenses
  • Must have a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • OSHA-30 Hour construction Safety course or an equivalent 30 hour of formal safety and health training covering the subject of the OSHA-30-hour course.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to live aboard the vessel and work the assigned rotation and 84-hour workweek.
