Job description

Position Summary:

Provides mail distribution services for the Social Security Administration (SSA) office. This position follows clearly detailed specific procedures in completing several repetitive clerical steps performed in a prescribed or slightly varied sequence, such as shipping cases via UPS throughout the region, sorting and delivering mail, filling supply orders and replenishing copier paper at various locations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Collect mail from various mail stops.
  2. Receive daily mail during the hours of 8:00 am until 5:00 pm.
  3. Process mail which includes counting, opening, date stamping and sorting incoming mail by department.
  4. Deliver mail to different offices by pushing mail cart.
  5. Meter outgoing mail using mailing machines equipped with postage meters supplied by SSA.
  6. Deliver administrative office supplies, photocopy paper, etc.
  7. Distribute printed materials.
  8. Operate customer service desk.
  9. Responsible for filing office supply requests for the various departments.
  10. Count, stamp and sort mail for distribution and dispatch outgoing mail.
  11. Deliver accountable mail within one hour of its arrival.
  12. Assist SSA employees in preparing materials for mailing.
  13. Readdress undeliverable mail bearing incomplete or incorrect addresses.
  14. Open boxes and sort incoming files.
  15. Generate UPS shipping labels for outgoing packages via Campus Ship System.
  16. Must maintain a good attendance record.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. This position is open to individuals who qualify for the AbilityOne Program, which provides employment opportunities to people who are blind or with significant disabilities. Candidates must meet the eligibility requirements of the AbilityOne Program to be considered for this role.

Education:

  1. High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.

Prior Experience Desirable:

  1. Six months experience in a warehouse or inventory control setting helpful, but not required.

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
  2. Working knowledge of telephones, copy and fax machines and mail metering equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
  2. Be able to reach overhead.
  3. Be able to work in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time.
  4. Be able to handle, lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
  5. Be able to handle mailbags, mail hampers, and packages often weighing up to 50 pounds.
  6. Good hand dexterity. Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble small objects.
  7. Good eyesight.

Visual Effort:

  1. Well-lit office environment requiring average amount of visual effort.
  2. Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet).

Safety:

  1. Follows all prescribed safety regulations to diminish accidents.
  2. Understanding of OSHA safety requirements.
  3. Knowledge of evacuation procedures and the whereabouts of exits and fire extinguishers.
  4. Immediately report circumstances you consider may present a hazard to yourself and others.
  5. Report any accident whether minor or major.

Security:

  1. Must abide by all security regulations of the facility.
  2. Must obtain and wear a photo ID.
