Job summary

RWE Americas, LLC is seeking a Senior Wind Farm Technician to support the operations and maintenance of one or more wind farms in Indiana. You will ensure safety, maximize availability, and perform scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, and training for the O&M team.

Responsibilities include leading safety practices, conducting tests, assisting with turbine and balance of plant work, and maintaining records in the digital CMMS, while traveling as needed to multiple local wind farms.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree preferred.
• 7+ years in operations/maintenance with 4+ years wind turbine experience.
• Experience with Gamesa, GE, or Vestas turbines preferred.
• Journeyman/master electrician license or Wind Tech cert acceptable.
• Must have valid driver's license and willingness to relocate near site.

Responsibilities

• Perform safe maintenance and troubleshooting on wind farm systems.
• Lead and train O&M staff; follow standard work instructions and safety policies.
• Assist with turbine maintenance, balancing of plant procedures, and tests.
• Maintain records via digital maintenance management system.

RWE Americas, LLC To start as soon as possible, full time, permanent As Senior Wind Farm Technician, you support the overall operations and maintenance of one or more wind farms and all related facilities to assure safety and maximize availability in accordance with Operations mission. This role is responsible for safe execution of scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting and repair activities, training, and safety exercises. This job also maintains accountability and readiness of plant tools, equipment, and vehicles; provides technical guidance to the O&M team; tracks, and maintains records of service activities both scheduled and unscheduled through the digital maintenance management system; and helps maintain the work ethic and culture of the plant O&M team.

Role Responsibilities

• Assure that all operation and maintenance activities are performed in a safe manner consistent with policies and procedures established for the wind farm site
• Assist in conducting acceptance and performance tests on systems and equipment following planned maintenance or outages
• Perform safety and other wind farm related tasks when assigned and fill in as back up to personnel at other RWE sites when necessary
• Assist with turbine maintenance including services, major component work and replacement, and troubleshooting
• Assist with Balance of Plant procedures as needed, including substation and collection system maintenance
• Adherence to the company’s values and behaviors
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the manager

Job Requirements and Experiences

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in Sciences or related field from an accredited school preferred
• Minimum 7 years of work experience in operations and/or maintenance in power generation, transmission and/or distribution, with at least 4 years of wind turbine experience
• Gamesa, GE, and Vestas Wind Turbine Experience preferred
• Alternatively 2 year or 4 year college degree from an accredited school (other than correspondence or on-line) in a technical science like engineering, physics, power, or closely similar
• Military experience in a technical field (electrical, electronics or mechanical)
• License or Certification experience substitutions include Current Journeyman, Current Master Elecrician License, and Wind Tech Certificate
• Unrestricted driver license in good standing
• Willing to relocate to within 1 hour drive of site
• Ability to follow and create standard work instructions
• Ability to lead crane rigging & signaling operations, and train others in the field
• Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools and train others in the field
• Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
• Ability to work within tight deadlines
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned
• Expert PC/Laptop skills and ability to train others
• Ability to create, save, manipulate text, formats & formulas in documents and spreadsheets in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and utilize Teams for meetings, and ability to train others
• Ability to independently prepare & present technical presentations
• Ability to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a team
• Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
• Ability to independently perform complex troubleshooting and repairs of electromechanical systems, and train others in the field
• Ability to read, interpret, and follow electrical, mechanical, & hydraulic circuit drawings, and ability to train others
• Identify energy isolation points and implement LOTO for protection
• Expert understanding of electromechanical relay, hydraulic accumulator, linear transducer, and electrical motor, and ability to train others
• Expert knowledge of power electronics, motor drives, AC/DC converters, and ability to train others
• Knowledge of computer network communication protocol and theory of operation is desired
• Ability to understand and communicate root causes required
• Good communication skills and must value being part of a team
• Safety- Promote safety for all at all times
• Ability to fill out JHA/LOTO/Tailboard forms without assistance and ability to train others
• Initiative - Able to work with minimum supervision and make decisions for all issues related to his/her discipline(s) with limited and/or available information
• Wind Farm site location including work in and around energized wind turbine generators and balance of plant equipment (substation, pad mount transformers, etc.). The work will occur within an office, warehouse, in turbines and outdoors

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to maintain a personal weight limitation of 270 lbs.
• Must be able to climb wind towers on a daily basis. During this task, employee must be able to open/close hatch doors and identify potential safety hazards
• Must be able to balance to work in closed and small swaying areas on top of and within wind towers
• Must be able to balance to walk across small surface areas to access areas within wind turbines
• Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely in extreme environments (hot sun, cold, etc.)
• Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the work day
• This position is a field-based role with travel to mutlipe local RWE wind farms and field locations
• Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time
