Job summary

Oil States ATS in Houston, TX, is seeking a Sr. Welding Engineer to lead welding engineering efforts for industrial projects.

The role emphasizes interface with customers to define work scopes, prepare quotes, and manage interfaces across engineering, inspection, and shop teams. The successful candidate will manage project budgets and schedules, develop welding techniques, review fabrication reports, and coordinate subcontract activities while ensuring compliance with AWS, ASME, API, and ANSI

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering; Welding Engineering preferred; MS/PhD degree a plus.
• 6–8 years industrial welding construction/fabrication experience.
• Working knowledge of design codes and standards (AWS, ASME, API, ANSI).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, Adobe).
• Self-starter, detail oriented, organized, and able to multi-task.

Responsibilities

• Interface with customers to determine work scopes and prepare proposals/quotes.
• Manage interfaces with customers, Engineering/Inspection personnel, and shop employees.
• Manage project budget and schedule to ensure completion within budget and contracted schedule.
• Identify required subcontract activities and coordinate scheduling.
• Prepare fabrication record reports for submittal to customer.
• Review/approve fabrication reports prepared by others.
• Develop and qualify welding techniques per applicable code/specification; write welding procedures.
• Travel as required.

Job Specifications:

Responsible for ensuring that small and/or large projects, or sub-scopes of large projects, are executed in accordance with contractual obligations and meet technical, quality and safety requirements, within the budget and schedule constraints. The ideal candidate will be able to interface with customers to determine Work Scopes for potential projects, prepare Proposals/Quotes for presentation to customers that include technical, manpower and equipment requirements; manage interfaces with customers, Engineering/Inspection personnel as well as shop employees, manage project budget, schedule and coordinate activities to ensure project completion within budget and contracted schedule; identify required subcontract activities, i.e., machining, NDE, DT, and coordinate scheduling as necessary; prepare detailed fabrication record reports for submittal to customer upon completion of project; review/approve reports prepared by others; review/approve fabrication record reports prepared by others; develop and qualify welding techniques per applicable code/specification; write welding and submit procedures to customers or for internal use.

Education/Skills:

• BS Degree in Engineering; Welding Engineering preferred, Welding Engineering Technology or Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical, with experience related to welding acceptable. MS/PhD Degree a plus
• 6 to 8 years industrial Engineering experience required, related to welding construction/fabrication (preferably Oil & Gas industry)
• in-depth working knowledge of applicable design Codes and Standards (AWS, ASME, API, ANSI, etc.)
• must possess a functional knowledge and understanding of engineering and design characteristics with regards to fabrication, welding and NDT
• working knowledge with most Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, Adobe, etc)
• a self-starter; ability to complete tasks with a minimum of guidance/supervision
• must be detail oriented, organized and able to multi-task
• strong interpersonal and communications skills, both verbal and written, in the English language
• assign priorities and resolve conflicts within daily routine tasks
• ability to effectively work as a TEAM Leader
• ability to travel required
