Magna Steyr is seeking a Senior Vehicle Integration Project Engineer in the USA to lead the end‑to‑end development of vehicle systems, from concept through production launch. You will work with OEMs, Magna divisions, and external suppliers to ensure technical excellence and on‑time program execution.

The role requires a bachelor’s in mechanical/auto engineering with 10+ years in automotive product development, plus strong DFMEA/DVP&R and systems engineering experience.

Job Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE Magna Steyr is looking for talented and experienced team members in complete vehicle development who are determined and passionate about developing the next level industry standard for vehicle architecture and production solutions. The Sr. Vehicle Integration Project Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, validation, integration, and launch of vehicle systems, components, and complete vehicle programs. Working closely with OEM customers, Magna divisions, global engineering teams, manufacturing organizations, and suppliers, the Senior Project Engineer drives technical excellence, cross‑functional collaboration, and successful program execution from concept development through production launch.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Technical Responsibility Contribute to the Magna Steyr USA strategy and growth by supporting Lead Engineering roles and the whole engineering team in areas such as:
  • Lead engineering strategies, validation approaches, and technical trade‑off decisions for assigned vehicle systems and integration programs.
  • Lead customer‑facing technical reviews and executive engineering discussions.
  • Lead the design, development, integration, validation, and launch of vehicle systems, components, or complete vehicle programs.
  • Serve as technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams to achieve program objectives and milestone commitments.
  • Develop and approve engineering requirements, specifications, performance targets, and technical deliverables.
  • Drive concept development activities using set‑based engineering and systems engineering principles.
  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and Magna standards.
  • Lead subsystem and vehicle‑level technical reviews and design assessments.
  • Support engineering strategy and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
  • Own technical development and maintenance of DFMEAs, DVP&R documents, requirements management processes, and validation strategies.
  • Lead technical strategy for component, subsystem, and vehicle‑level validation plans, including virtual and physical testing requirements.
  • Technical leadership across multiple systems to drive validation activities (suppliers, test facilities, CAE teams, etc.).
  • Lead root cause analysis and resolution of technical issues throughout development and launch phases.
  • Technical Support for benchmarking activities and competitive analysis to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead technical revies for CAD release and overall geometrical integration.
  • Technical Support for DMU development, virtual vehicle integration, and digital validation activities.
  • Own generation and maintenance of technical documentation including CTDS, STDS/SSTS, design standards, and engineering reports.
  • Coordinate CAE support requests and ensure timely provision of engineering data.
  • Ensure designs support manufacturing feasibility, production takt time, quality objectives, and cost targets.
  • Collaborate with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) to ensure successful industrialization and launch readiness.
  • Support prototype, pilot, and production build activities.
  • Technical leadership for issue resolution during vehicle launches and production ramp‑up phases.
EMPLOYEE RELATED TASK
  • Project Planning, Target Achievement, Monitoring & Reporting Employ technical expertise to lead the engineering development of one or more subsystems
  • Support Technical Area (TA) core competencies.
  • Support and contribute to knowledge base of internal and external best practices.
  • Owning benchmarking studies and contribute to the benchmark knowledgebase.
  • Technical leadership for advanced development topics supporting the strategy of Magna Vehicle Engineering USA.
  • Drive continuous improvement opportunities to level up team skills, qualifications, tools and processes.
  • Lead design proposals with set‑based engineering principles.
  • Lead designs with 6 Sigma design principles.
  • Technical leadership across multiple systems for problem solving.
  • Ensure cooperation with all areas within the vehicle product development and request the required frame conditions
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned programs.
  • Lead technical reviews with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support development of engineering capabilities.
  • Influence technical decisions across cross‑functional teams and global organizations.
  • Support resource planning, technical risk management, and budget forecasting activities.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of automotive product development experience.
  • Experience in complete vehicle development and launch activities.
  • Proven experience leading engineering projects and cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of DFMEA, DVP&R, GD&T, APQP, problem‑solving methodologies, and engineering release processes.
  • Experience working with OEM customers and global engineering organizations.
  • Must have a positive “can do” attitude.
  • Must be flexible and able to course correct paths according to priority alignment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 15%.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring engineers.
  • Experience as Vehicle Systems Engineer.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • CAD and CAE experience.
  • Knowledge of FMVSS, ECE, GB, and global vehicle regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with lightweight materials, composites, advanced joining technologies, and vehicle integration activities.
  • Experience in fastening, threaded, riveted, and clip retainer fasteners.
  • Experience in class “A” painting and corrosion protection.
  • Computer knowledge and skills in CAD and CAE simulation preferred.
  • Six Sigma certification preferred.
