Job summary

The Standard is seeking a Mid‑Market Senior Underwriter to assess and underwrite complex employee benefits cases in the 1,000–4,999 life range. You will apply advanced underwriting expertise to drive profitable growth, mentor colleagues, and support regional/ mid‑market underwriting teams.

You will analyze trends, develop strategic pricing solutions, and collaborate across departments to optimize enterprise-wide outcomes while upholding competitive, compliant practices.

Qualifications

  • 6 years of progressively responsible experience in employee benefits underwriting with 3-5 years of experience underwriting for Life, Short-term Disability (STD), and Long-term Disability (LTD).
  • Strong proficiency in underwriting guidelines, procedures, contract provisions, and state insurance statutes.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting the development of other underwriters.
  • Familiarity with mid‑market or regional account underwriting environments.

Job Summary

As a Mid‑Market Senior Underwriter, you will evaluate and underwrite complex employee benefits cases in the 1,000–4,999 life range, using sound judgment to drive profitable growth and long‑term customer retention. You’ll apply advanced underwriting expertise, anticipate market and economic trends, and develop strategic solutions that support the health of the overall block of business. This role also serves as a subject‑matter expert and mentor within the Regional Accounts and Mid‑Market underwriting teams, helping elevate team capability and decision quality.

Skills And Background You’ll Need
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, HS Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
  • 6 years of progressively responsible experience in employee benefits underwriting with 3-5 years of experience underwriting for Life, Short-term Disability (STD), and Long-term Disability (LTD).
  • Strong proficiency in underwriting guidelines, procedures, contract provisions, and state insurance statutes. Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex risk and make sound, strategic decisions.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting the development of other underwriters.

  • Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on a variety of factors including individual and organizational performance.

Salary Range: $76,250.00 - $111,500.00
