JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing day-to-day professional administration and regulatory compliance of accounts of high complexity, profile and/or volume, which include trusts, conservatorships, agencies, IRAs and estates. In addition, the role is expected to build client relationships to generate new business by focusing on a “team approach to warm leads” generated with and through the assistance of existing clients, other Bank associates, senior Bank management and the Director of Trust Services of local market.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Administer Personal Trust Accounts (35%)

  • Administers a large volume of sophisticated accounts, which include trusts, conservatorships, agencies, IRAs and estates pursuant to the controlling document, state and federal regulations and client direction.
  • Facilitates dispute resolutions for unique assets under management such as limited partnerships, agricultural and commercial real estate, and operating businesses.
  • Develops a strong working relationship with an assigned Trust Assistant in the handling of daily administrative matters.

New Business Development (30%)

  • Achieves new business sales goals with the assistance of the Director of Trust Services or other senior officers or management staff focusing mainly on retention sales to generate a greater share of existing client wealth.
  • Establishes and maintains a robust pipeline of new business prospects primarily through independent cold calling efforts and networking.
  • Builds and maintains a professional network of circles of influence such as attorneys, CPAs, other professionals, and others within the bank to develop additional revenue possibilities.
  • Actively participates in sales meetings and mentors/advises less seasoned personal trust officers in effective sales call routines.

Client Retention (15%)

  • Performs client communication to include independent dispute resolution, administrative reviews with the assistance of an investment officer, and ongoing customer contact to ensure high levels of client retention.

Leadership (10%)

  • Supervises daily functions of the team to include assisting with sourcing and hiring, motivating, coaching, assigning work, scheduling, training, providing timely input to quarterly/annual performance reviews, and problem solving, but does not have final decision-making authority.

Portfolio Review and Analysis (5%)

  • Performs independent establishment of client investment policy statements, portfolio review and reallocation, and the implementation of Trust Investment Committee recommendations.

Compliance and Operations (5%)

  • Ensures accurate and timely delivery of trust and investment services.
  • Interacts with the operations and compliance team members ensuring proper compliance and operational excellence.

Performs other duties as required and assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge and ability to articulate and utilize relevant trust administrative statutes.
  • Extensive knowledge of trust accounting to include 1041 tax return production.
  • Extensive knowledge of investments and asset allocation strategies to include Modern Portfolio Theory and the Prudent Investor Act along with the ability to independently articulate the same to clients and prospects.
  • Extensive knowledge or experience in recommending sophisticated estate and financial planning concepts to include avoidance of the federal estate or generation skipping transfer tax.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and self-starter demonstrating ability to work independently but within an overall team.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic leadership and team-building skills.
  • Ability to complete required training by assigned due date.
  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record to operate a company vehicle or conduct essential functions of the job
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time to attend client meetings, events, conferences, etc.

EDUCATION*

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, investments, or sales required.
  • An advanced Law degree, CPA designation, MBA or other professional designation obtained through extensive study in the estate planning filed such as Certified Trust Financial Advisor (CTFA) or Certified Financial Provider (CFP) required.

EXPERIENCE*

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a Trust Officer or the practice of estate planning required.
  • Prior leadership experience strongly preferred.

This job operates in a professional office environment with normal office working conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.

May be requested to work weekends for special program events.
