Job summary

Terumo Medical Corporation is seeking an experienced Senior Tooling Engineer to lead design, troubleshooting, and optimization of complex tooling systems at the plant level. You will guide engineering and production teams in high-precision tool development, CNC programming, and automation integration.

Mentorship of junior toolmakers and driving continuous improvement are essential. The role requires expertise in dies, fixtures, and tooling, with strong CAD/CAM skills and regulatory awareness.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent in tooling/engineering required.
  • 6–10+ years in tool and die, machining, or manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex tooling design, fabrication, and optimization of dies, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Oversee tooling integration with automated production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot tooling problems affecting production, quality, and compliance.
  • Develop and document tooling standards, procedures, and technical docs for plant use.
  • Drive continuous improvement and tooling innovations to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Mentor Tool & Die staff and lead training of tooling skills.

Job Summary

Leads design, troubleshooting, and optimization of complex or custom tooling systems at the plant level. Acts as a tooling subject matter expert, guiding engineering and production teams in high-precision tool development, CNC programming, and integration with automated equipment. Mentors junior toolmakers, drives continuous improvement and tooling innovation, and ensures tooling strategies maximize product quality, yield, and compliance.

  • Complex Tool Design & Fabrication - Lead development, fabrication, and optimization of highly complex dies, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Tooling Integration with Automation Systems - Lead tooling projects interfacing with automated production equipment.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution - Solve complex, recurring, and high-precision tooling problems affecting production, quality, and compliance.
  • Documentation & Standards Creation - Author tooling standards, procedures, and technical documentation for plant-wide use.
  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation - Drive tooling innovation, optimize processes, and implement efficiency and quality improvements.
  • Mentorship & Technical Leadership - Provide expert guidance to Tool & Die I and II personnel; lead training and development of tooling skills. Other related duties may be assigned.

Incumbent must follow all established Environmental Health & Safety and Quality System policies, programs, rules and practices, including but not limited to product and patient safety, the health and safety of all associates as well as the environment and community at large.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA)

Knowledge:

  • Expert-level tooling, machining, materials, and GD&T knowledge.
  • Advanced CNC programming, CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD).
  • Tooling integration with automated equipment and production systems.
  • Medical device regulatory standards and compliance for tooling.

Skills:

  • Lead complex tooling projects from design through implementation.
  • Develop innovative tooling solutions and improvements.
  • Mentor and coach junior toolmakers in technical and safety practices.
  • Independently troubleshoot systemic tooling problems affecting production.

Abilities:

  • Make strategic decisions impacting plant-wide tooling reliability.
  • Collaborate with engineering and cross-functional teams on tooling strategy.
  • Handle high-precision work with attention to tolerances down to ±0.0001 inch.

Fully bilingual (English and Spanish) for plant-wide communication, is preferred.

Qualifications/ Background Experiences
  • Associate degree in Tool & Die, Machinist or Technology of Engineering.
  • Work Experience: 6-10+ years in tool and die making, machining, or manufacturing operations.
  • Certifications / Training: Advanced CNC, CAD/CAM, GD&T, specialized tooling/materials training.
