Job summary

Sierra Nevada Corporation seeks a Senior Test Engineer to lead complex testing programs across mission equipment. You will develop test plans, mentor junior engineers, and ensure product performance and compliance with industry standards from design to post-production follow-up.

The role emphasizes system testing for ISR, aviation, and security domains. An active Secret U.S. Security Clearance is required; travel may be needed as part of program support.

As a Senior Test Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the most complex and critical testing projects within the organization. You will develop sophisticated test plans, mentor junior engineers, and ensure the highest level of product performance and compliance with industry standards. Our testing approach evolves with the design maturity, extending from initial stages through to post-production follow-ups on subsequent articles. The role involves extensive system testing, aimed at assessing a broad spectrum of mission equipment such as communication, computing, navigation, and surveillance systems, to ensure they meet design and functionality standards. Please note, this role does not require any knowledge or skills related to software or automation testing. The ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance), Aviation, and Security (IAS) business area is a leader in ISR and aviation, it is a leading prime manned and unmanned aircraft systems integrator for innovative, high-performance ISR and aviation systems. Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage complex and high-stakes testing projects.
• Plan, assign, and track test‑related work to meet program schedules, coordinating inter‑department support, unique test resources, and near‑term outlooks with internal and external stakeholders.
• Manage planning documentation workflows by coordinating approvals of latest reviewed versions.
• Coordinate test planning activities including instrumentation requirements, installation efforts, pre‑test briefings, and required review boards.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for test execution, resolving scheduling issues and ensuring alignment across engineering, maintenance, and conformity teams.
• Track and report test execution status, including aircraft instrumentation configuration, maintenance actions, conformity updates, and required post‑flight data reviews.
• Manage the reporting lifecycle, monitoring report development, review/signature progress, and releasing final reports.
• Capture and maintain program lessons learned through test‑specific hot wash sessions and updates to the Lessons Learned Log.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Bachelor's of Science in Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in test engineering or a related role.
• Higher level relevant degree may substitute for experience.
• Expert understanding of test and evaluation principles and methodologies.
• Thorough understanding of engineering principles and practices.
• Experience leading multi-disciplinary design and development teams.
• Advanced Knowledge of requirements management, system design, and systems integration.
• Demonstrated experience planning, conducting, and documenting Verification and Validation (V&V) activities.
• Ability to read schematics, use service manuals, follow test procedures, and use logical trouble shooting techniques.
• An active Secret U.S. Security Clearance is required.

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Previous leadership roles within a testing environment.
• Direct usage of various testing equipment, standards, and methodologies to include manual and automated testing.
• Experience authoring complex and professional test plans, test procedures, and test reports in order to demonstrate compliance to system requirements.
• Familiarity with Product and Quality Assurance principles and experienced in generation and disposition of product non-conformances.
• Experience performing certification testing for various certification organizations (i.e. FAA, NASA, DoD).
• Ability to read schematics, use service manuals, follow test procedures, and use logical trouble shooting techniques.
• Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry.
• Experience conducting testing per MIL-STD-810, DO-160, or other similar industry methods and standards.
• Knowledge of safety risk management, risk mitigations, and industry standards.
• Experience with the sequence of test events accounts for safety risk management, including identifying potential risks and implementing mitigations, to conduct tests safely and effectively.

• Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Ability to work in an office, lab, hangar, or offsite environment.
