Job Description

An electronics technician is needed to support operations, maintenance and upgrade of the three Lincoln Space Surveillance Center (LSSC) space surveillance radar systems. The candidate will be trained to participate in all aspects of high voltage (40kV and above) RF transmitter construction, operations and maintenance. Duties include electronic components and subsystem level assembly and troubleshooting, monitoring daily operations, and performing maintenance of the transmitter systems. This job involves working on a variety of equipment including high voltage power supplies, vacuum tubes, precision RF waveguide components, sensitive high power transmitter tubes, high‑field magnets, and high‑volume water‑cooling systems. Some of this work will be performed at heights. Tower climbing, first aid and hoist operator certification are essential.

In this position, the technician will assist in laboratory, research, or analytical work under direction or supervision of scientific personnel. Responsibilities include supporting integration activities, system‑level testing and troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and inspections on transmitter systems and related components. The technician will operate highly technical experimental apparatus, may direct and train lower‑grade technicians, and understand the theoretical aspects of the experiments. Minimal supervision is required. Occasional off‑hour maintenance, remote troubleshooting, and handling phone calls or text messages at home may be expected.

Requirements
  • Graduation from a two‑year technical school or equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Minimum of 5 years of applicable hands‑on technical experience.
  • Experience maintaining high‑voltage equipment and vacuum tube‑based equipment such as those found in radar or communication systems.
  • Experience fabricating/repairing electronic equipment, cabling, and skills in soldering, mechanical fabrication, and assembly.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics.
  • Basic troubleshooting experience using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of high voltage electronics and the unique safety issues associated with high‑voltage systems.
  • Flexibility to support second‑shift work on an as‑needed basis is preferred.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens and possess an active DoW security clearance.
  • Successful candidates must pass a tower climbing physical test and be willing and able to climb towers.
