Job summary

FedEx Freight in Ohio is seeking a skilled Fleet Maintenance Technician to perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on tractors, trailers, forklifts and related equipment. The role requires five years of experience with heavy-duty vehicles, ASE certifications preferred, and strong mechanical and computer skills.

You will document work thoroughly and uphold safety standards in a fast-paced shop environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (or GED), preferred
  • Minimum of five years’ experience performing vehicle maintenance
  • Heavy-duty vehicle maintenance certificate may substitute for 1 year experience
  • Master ASE certification may substitute an additional two years’ experience
  • Competency in brakes, electrical, PMI, powertrain, trailing equipment
  • Master ASE (Medium/Heavy Truck) and Class A CDL preferred
  • Proficient computer skills including maintenance programs and diagnostics
  • Knowledge of gas and diesel engines and onboard computers
  • Experience with precision measuring tools and oxy/acetylene equipment and lifting devices
  • Ability to lift about 110 lbs with equipment or assistance
  • Owns necessary tools to perform tasks
  • Valid driver's license may be required
  • Operate vehicles with manual or automatic transmissions
  • Access to driver’s compartment safely
  • Paint/body work experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently or as a team
  • Proficient written and verbal communication

Responsibilities

  • Repair, modify and inspect preventive maintenance; troubleshoot tractors, trailers, forklifts and equipment
  • Perform advanced diagnostics and repair or replace components and systems
  • Adjust equipment for safe operation and complete safety docs

Job description

Starting Rate of Pay: $36.17/ hour

POSITION OVERVIEW

To provide timely, quality, and cost-effective repair and maintenance for vehicle fleet including tractors, trailers, forklifts, and other equipment that requires preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, modifications and repairs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Repairs, modifies and performs preventive maintenance inspections; troubleshoots vehicle fleet including tractors, trailers, forklifts and other equipment
  • Performs advanced diagnostics to identify source of trouble and performs repairs and/or replaces or rebuilds all components and systems
  • Makes necessary adjustments to equipment for safe and efficient operation and prepares required safety documentation
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less-experienced technicians
  • Ensures proper and accurate documentation of all maintenance performed, completes reports in writing and electronically
  • Performs safety inspections of equipment and documents the work
  • Performs paint and body work on vehicles, as required
  • Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
  • Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma (or GED), preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience performing vehicle maintenance
  • A heavy-duty vehicle maintenance certificate obtained from an accredited vehicle maintenance vocational/trade school may substitute for one-year vehicle maintenance experience.
  • A Master ASE certification may substitute an additional two year’s vehicle maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrated competency in repair and maintenance of Brakes, Electrical, PMI, Powertrain, and Trailing Equipment required
  • Medium/Heavy Truck Master ASE Certification and Class A CDL preferred
  • Must possess proficient computer skills including maintenance programs, and diagnostic systems
  • Must possess in-depth knowledge of gas and diesel engines and on-board computers
  • Experience using precision measurement instruments oxygen/acetylene equipment, and lifting devices (bottle, floor, wheel, or transmission jacks, floor cranes, etc.).
  • Able to frequently lift components weighing approximately 110 pounds with appropriate equipment and/or assistance from another person
  • Must possess necessary tools to perform assigned tasks
  • Valid driver’s license may be required depending on work assignment
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles equipped with manual or automatic transmissions
  • Ability to enter and exit the driver’s compartment of the truck and/or behind cab using normal available footholds and handholds
  • Paint and body work experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently and/or as a team member
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
WORKING CONDITIONS

Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job
Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, diesel fumes and noise
May be required to drive service van to off-site locations and perform work
Exposure to climate conditions of the geographic area
Exposure to chemicals, oils, greases, paints or other irritants
Hours may vary due to operational need
