Job summary

George Washington University Hospital in downtown Washington, DC, seeks an experienced Sr. Special Procedures Technologist for the Interventional Lab. The role requires proficiency in general diagnostic radiology and neuro/vascular interventional exams, performed under radiologist direction.

The candidate should hold AMA-sponsored Radiologic Technology training and ARRT registration, with strong patient-care skills and the ability to work across life stages in a dynamic academic medical center.

Qualifications

  • Completion of AMA-sponsored School of Radiologic Technology.
  • 5 years’ experience as radiology technologist.

Responsibilities

  • Perform as scrub technician in the Special Procedures/Interventional Lab.
  • Proficient in general diagnostic radiology, neuro and vascular interventional exams.
  • Provides patient care across lifespan with age-appropriate needs.
  • Operates imaging equipment per manufacturer specifications.
  • Assists radiologists in performing imaging examinations.
  • If certified, may place PICC lines in Interventional lab under physician supervision.

Sr. Special Procedures Technologist - (IR)

Perform as scrub technician in the Special Procedures/Interventional Lab. The technologist must be proficient in all the areas of general diagnostic radiology, neuro and vascular interventional examinations in accordance with established protocols, as directed by the attending radiologist. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Applies knowledge of growth and development over the lifespan. Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit. Assesses data reflective of each patient s status and interprets information needed to identify each patient s age requirements relative to his/her age-specific healthcare needs.

  • Completion of AMA-sponsored School of Radiologic Technology
  • 5 years’ experience as radiology technologist
Skills
  • Receives patients, explains procedures, and answers all patient questions and/or concerns pertaining to exam.
  • Monitors and assist patients, before, during and after the examinations.
  • Provides first aid and/or CPR to patients when necessary.
  • Transports patients as needed.
  • Performs as scrub technician in special procedures.
  • Performs a variety of special imaging examinations using established or dictated protocols.
  • Reconstructs images, archives and transfers information to the CR/PAC system, films and processes films using automatic film processor and/or laser camera.
  • Operates imaging and other related equipment according to manufacturer s specifications.
  • Assists radiologists in performing a variety of imaging examinations using sterile techniques.
  • If certified may place PICC lines in Interventional lab under the direction of a physician.
  • Complete appropriate orders in RMS in a timely manner.
  • Ensures proper order entry, to include correcting orders in SMS (POETS) and/or RMS.
  • Perform quality control and maintain pertinent local, state, and federal records as applicable to different sections.
License/Certification:
  • ARRT Registration and/or RCIS required. Current BLS certification. Other license/certification as required by specialty.
  • Associates must comply with the ARRT Rules and Regulation and the ARRT Standards of Ethics
