The Senior Systems Planning Engineer is an individual contributor involved in mainline transmission, overall distribution system design, storage, and peak shaving facility design, and is responsible for simulations of gas dispatch and transmission/distribution system operation, and engineering economic analysis at Southwest Gas Corporation. This position performs work for both the distribution function on behalf of Southwest Gas Corporation, and the interstate pipeline function on behalf of Great Basin Gas Transmission Company (GBGTC).

QUALIFICATIONS

There are clear precedents and practices which the incumbent uses to determine how this job is performed. This position requires four to six years of relevant industry work experience and a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university, supervisory qualifications and excellent communication skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform project management including the preparation of preliminary engineering designs, cost estimates, schedules, acquisition of public land easements, environmental surveys and reports, environmental permit solicitation and regulatory filings for various multi‑million dollar, transmission projects including interstate connections, pipelines, regulator and metering facilities, compressor stations, and liquefied natural gas facilities
  • Communicate project status to appropriate departments
  • Develop specifications against which designs can be produced
  • Develop engineering specifications for major capital expenditures and purchases
  • Prepare project proposals detailing engineering work costs & project timetables
  • Conduct feasibility studies
  • Establish standard designs, prices, drawings, reference files, and/or cost data
  • Develop engineering systems for planning and control
  • Assure the technical soundness of engineering programs
  • Maintain liaison with regulatory organizations
  • Assess the need for facility replacement and modification
  • Represent Company at regulatory hearings, legal actions and legislative meetings
  • Maintain liaison with other departments of the organization
  • Keep abreast of changing technologies
  • Identify and document needs for technical support
  • Prepare design drawings
  • Conduct computer simulations to test or design facilities
  • Evaluate and select optimum design alternatives
  • Develop computer simulations of customer load under various scenarios
  • Develop computer simulation tool for weather analysis
  • Ensure that computer model accurately models Company facilities and customer loads
  • Configure/Analysis GIS to Synergee extraction models
  • Perform preliminary engineering necessary to investigate new projects
  • Prepare cost estimates on proposed major design projects
  • Help resolve operating problems
  • Investigate and correct facility operating problems
  • Ensure that supplies for distribution and transmission systems can be accounted for and dispatched to meet customer demands
  • Prepare work authorizations
  • Assure that project engineering costs adhere to budget
  • Utilize project engineering planning and monitoring methods to ensure timely completion
  • Develop and maintain computer systems for analysis of receipt and delivery data for LUFG
  • Collaborate with purchasing and contracts administration in obtaining quotations or bids
  • Supervise transmission and distribution of gas
  • Assess the need for facility replacement and modification
  • Advise less experienced engineering personnel
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Regular and predictable attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job
SALARY DETAILS

Las Vegas: $93,380 - $140,070

External candidates must be based in Las Vegas, NV or willing to relocate.
