Sr. Systems Engineer, TS/SCI w/Poly

Location: US-MD-Laurel

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for data flows, data architecture, and data storage within a cloud-based data warehouse environment.
  • Provide strategic guidance on data ingest, storage, and lifecycle management, including compliance, data integrity, deduplication, and data aging strategies.
  • Lead efforts to integrate and migrate legacy data into modern architectures while ensuring continuity, accessibility, and compliance.
  • Deliver regular status updates to senior leadership and engineering stakeholders on critical activities, system health, and risks.
  • Perform hands‑on data analysis using custom tools and scripts to query, tag, preserve, or remove data across large‑scale datasets (millions to billions of records).
  • Support transition and decommissioning activities, including historical data migration, system sunset planning, and data disposition.
  • Investigate and resolve data‑related issues, incidents, and anomalies; support ad‑hoc customer requests and operational needs.
  • Provide technical leadership as a Team Lead within an Agile development environment; support sprint planning, execution, and delivery.
  • Serve as Scrum Master, facilitating Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Mentor and coach junior systems engineers; provide technical oversight and backup support as needed.

Systems Engineering & Architecture

  • Analyze user requirements and develop Concepts of Operations (CONOPS), system architectures, and detailed system requirements specifications.
  • Lead system design and development activities, ensuring alignment between requirements, architecture, and implementation.
  • Guide stakeholders in refining requirements, evaluating alternatives, and conducting feasibility and trade‑off analyses.
  • Develop and maintain system engineering artifacts, including system engineering management plans, integration plans, and test strategies.
  • Design and develop Service‑Orientated Architecture (SOA)-based solutions.
  • Create DoDAF‑compliant architectural views, including operational, system, and technical standards views.
  • Conduct and/or approve end‑to‑end trade studies to optimize system performance, scalability, and lifecycle cost.
  • Utilize modeling, simulation, and prototyping to reduce risk and improve system design decisions.
  • Manage system configuration and changes throughout the lifecycle; participate in Configuration Control Boards (CCB) and Engineering Review Boards (ERB).
  • Identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and recommend courses of action; track and reassess risks at key milestones.
  • Support Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) efforts by evaluating solutions against cost, performance, risk, and environmental considerations.
  • Provide technical direction across system integration, interfacing, and testing activities, including requirements allocation, interface definition, and end‑to‑end flow analysis.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Interface with Government leadership, program stakeholders, and senior executives to address technical challenges, risks, and system decisions.
  • Collaborate across engineering teams, program management, and external partners to ensure alignment and successful delivery.
Qualifications
  • Twenty (20) years experience as a SE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type and complexity is required. Demonstrated experience in planning and leading Systems Engineering efforts is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Five (5) years of additional SE experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph is required.

Desired Qualifications

  • AWS or similar cloud experience desired.
  • Experience in architecting, migration, and hands‑on, configuration is a plus.
