Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr Systems Engineer - RHEL Linux Engineer based in United States.

The Senior Systems Engineer will design, implement, administer, and support critical infrastructure powering high-transactional business and IT applications.
The role has direct impact on customer experience, revenue, security, and regulatory compliance across enterprise environments.
You will work extensively with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, container platforms, Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, automation, and Infrastructure as Code.
The position combines hands-on engineering with opportunities to lead technical initiatives, improve operational reliability, and strengthen security practices.
You will also develop automation and GitOps processes that make infrastructure deployments more consistent, scalable, auditable, and efficient.
As a senior technical resource, you will collaborate with engineering, security, and operations teams while mentoring less experienced engineers.
This is an opportunity to contribute to a modern infrastructure environment while driving continuous improvements across critical systems and services.

Accountabilities
  • Design, implement, configure, administer, update, document, and support enterprise infrastructure systems and components, including servers, operating systems, packaged software, configuration files, certificates, databases, and appliances.
  • Independently execute infrastructure implementations and provide knowledge transfer to relevant technical teams.
  • Analyze, diagnose, isolate, and resolve complex system problems, developing short-term mitigations and identifying root causes and long-term remediation strategies.
  • Support compliance activities through reporting, configuration baselines, verification processes, and implementation of required infrastructure controls.
  • Review application non-functional requirements and design infrastructure solutions that support application development and delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership for selected infrastructure initiatives, including architecture design, validation, and small-scale IT projects.
  • Develop, test, document, and implement automation, scripting, and workflow improvements that increase system reliability, scalability, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • Establish and promote best practices for capacity management, asset and inventory management, configuration, updates, procurement, and vendor engagement.
  • Design and maintain automated deployment pipelines across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Implement GitOps and Infrastructure as Code practices to enable version-controlled, auditable, and repeatable infrastructure and application deployments.
  • Support enterprise application and middleware technologies, including Apache, Tomcat, messaging platforms, Spring Boot applications, and other production services.
  • Partner with engineering, security, and operations teams to improve platform reliability, security, compliance, and deployment velocity.
  • Mentor less experienced systems engineers and share technical expertise, operational knowledge, and best practices.
  • Maintain professional relationships with customers, vendors, peers, and leadership while demonstrating strong service and technical ownership.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • 5–7 years of professional experience in systems engineering or a related discipline within a medium or large organization.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux fundamentals, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux, with experience supporting container platforms and Kubernetes distributions.
  • Advanced Bash and shell scripting skills for Linux systems administration, automation, monitoring, and operational tooling.
  • Experience with enterprise networking concepts and technologies, including proxies, virtual IPs, bastion hosts, connectivity, and traffic-management patterns.
  • Hands-on experience administering Proxmox and at least one major cloud platform such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong GitHub experience, including repository administration, branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Experience implementing GitOps practices for infrastructure and application deployment.
  • Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration-management technologies such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or comparable tools.
  • Experience designing and maintaining automated deployment pipelines that promote consistency, compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Familiarity with DevOps and automation tools such as Jenkins and PowerShell, alongside Linux-based scripting technologies.
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure security, including authentication, authorization, file and directory permissions, IAM roles, SSH keys, certificates, key-management services, and security/compliance frameworks such as CIS, SOX, and PCI.
  • Experience supporting enterprise middleware and application technologies such as Apache, Tomcat, messaging platforms, and Spring Boot.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, security, and operations teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work independently on complex infrastructure challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor colleagues and provide technical guidance.
  • Professionalism, reliability, customer focus, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
